Cannabis Pop-Tarts for your morning sweet tooth
Treat yourself to a nostalgic breakfast classic with that certain something extra!
Breakfast has changed significantly over the last 30 years. Classic cereals have lost some of their flavor and smoothies, protein bombs and sugary Starbucks drinks have taken over. Whether you're on the go or on a lazy morning in bed, your stomach needs something. For a special morning, try these marijuana pop tarts for the perfect wake-and-bake weekend.
While there are recipes for cannabis smoothies and others… why not just indulge in a favorite meal from your childhood? Plus, depending on the strain, marijuana has the effect of either relaxing or energizing, so it can fit the mood of the day. These treats include a dollop of cannabutter in each pastry and are topped with one of your favorite fillings. Decorated with frosting and sprinkles, these potent pastries are guaranteed to give you a warm and fuzzy feeling, and not just because of the nostalgia factor.
This recipe contains 1 teaspoon of cannabutter per serving. The strength of the Pop-Tart will depend on several factors, including the type of marijuana used and how the cannabutter was made. For more tips on proper dosing, check out 5 Ways to Find Out the Strength of Your Cannabutter.
Cannabis Pop Tarts
Makes 4 servings (the recipe can be doubled)
For the pastry:
- 1 serving unbaked pie dough (the same amount you would use for a plain crust pie)
- 4 tsp cannabutter (I like to use either a regular cannabutter or a vegan cannabutter with coconut oil)
- 4 heaped teaspoons of filling of your choice (chocolate drops, thick caramel or chocolate coating, jam, etc.)
Egg wash: 1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 teaspoon water

Up:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk or cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- Sprinkles for garnish (I used a mix of green colored edible glitter and rainbow nonpareil sprinkles)
1. Preheat your oven to 230°C (450°F). Line a baking tray with baking paper or a silicone mat.

2. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 20 x 30 cm. Cut the dough into 10 x 7.5 cm portions (basically dividing the dough into 8 equal-sized rectangles).

3. Place four of the rectangles on your baking sheet. Spread a teaspoon of cannabutter into the center of each rectangle.

4. Spoon your chosen filling directly onto the cannabutter, leaving room around the edge of each pastry. Avoid making the filling too thin, or it may leak out of the pastry. I used a fairly thick caramel sauce, which was probably the thinnest consistency that would work for these pastries.

5. Brush the “naked” parts of the pastry with your egg glaze.

6. Place the second batch of dough rectangles on top of each filled section of dough. Press the edges down to allow the egg mixture to form a seal. Lightly press the tines of a fork into the edges of each piece of dough to ensure a further seal. Prick the top of each piece of dough once or twice with the tines of a fork to allow steam to escape. If you like, you can brush the top of the dough with the remaining egg mixture.

7. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and allow to cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

8. Prepare the icing. In a large bowl, using a fork or whisk, stir together the powdered sugar, milk or cream, vanilla, and salt. Mix until there are no lumps and you have a thick but still pourable icing. Spoon some onto each pastry; sprinkle sprinkles on top immediately after icing (they stick best when the icing is still wet and slightly sticky). Let the icing set and enjoy!

Store leftovers in a single layer, tightly wrapped, at room temperature for up to 3 days.
