Cannabis CEOs and Former NBA Start Ginger Commerce |
A cannabis entrepreneur and former NBA athlete team up to launch Ginger Commerce, a brand new platform.
Two former Eaze co-founders and a former NBA athlete work together to create a direct-to-consumer (DTC) service called Ginger Commerce.
Ginger Commerce seeks to change the usual way consumers buy cannabis products by allowing brands to communicate directly with consumers. The idea of the company behind this approach is to “disrupt” the prevailing loyalty of certain popular brands and to give other brands the opportunity to grow and connect with customers. Every brand at Ginger Commerce has complete control over “customer experience, loyalty, sales promotion, pricing and more”.
Ginger Commerce CEO and Founder Roie Edery is a cannabis technology pioneer with years of experience in the industry. He is a co-founder of the well-known cannabis delivery company Eaze, where he held a position as product and operations manager.
“Our purpose-built solution with Ginger is a disruptive approach for consumers and brands alike,” he said in a press release. “Ginger opens the door to better prices, better deals and more convenient ways for consumers to get involved and get their cannabis. With us, brands have the opportunity to communicate directly with their customers and to market them. What does that mean? Discover your brand loyalty and create new ones. “
Edery works with longtime partner Aleksey Klempner, the co-founder and CTO of Ginger Commerce. Together they have worked in a total of four companies over the past 10 years. In addition to ginger commerce, the duo have teamed up with Eaze (plumber was also a co-founder of the company and former head of technology), Wayv (an online B2B service) and CLICK, an oral cannabis spray.
Plumber hopes Ginger Commerce will help diversify cannabis products in California and bring emerging products the consumer attention they deserve. “What I love about the technology we are developing is its ability to sort of democratize cannabis,” he said in a press release. “Our API, JavaScript SDK, and shopping cart plug-in enable entrepreneurs, content creators, and developers inside and outside the industry to create cannabis delivery solutions, introduce DTC brands, offer services, and essentially drive the industry forward. ”
Edery and Klempner also welcome former NBA athlete Omri Casspi, both as a co-founder and as an investor. Casspi is best known for his career as a forward with the Sacramento Kings, although he has played on many teams throughout his career. Casspi is also a co-founder of the oral cannabis spray company CLICK.
Edery, Klempner, and Casspi all believe that ginger commerce has the potential to change the way consumers discover new cannabis products in California. Brands like Big Pete’s Treats, a cannabis-infused cookie company based in Santa Cruz, California, are getting on board. Edibles are a competitive industry, especially when it comes to cookies.
Pete Furtado, Jr., CEO of Big Pete’s Treats, is excited to partner with Ginger Commerce. “We are very excited to be working with Ginger,” he said. “We’ve been waiting to give our fans a great delivery experience straight from our brand. This makes it easy, especially for our long-term, loyal customers and we look forward to getting in touch with our newly founded Cookie Club and expanding it. “
The cannabis industry has worked the same way for many years, but ginger commerce has the potential to mess things up. Edery firmly believes the company can help new brands get the limelight they deserve.
“Especially for new and emerging brands or brands that require training, it is extremely difficult to break into store shelves or get listed on market platforms in California,” he said. “They are very selective and it is competitive to be carried by these channels. Our DTC levels the playing field and gives brands the ability to attract customers online, tell their brand story in their own voice, and control the entire experience without being indebted to retail or marketplace decision-makers. “
