Cannabis business owner warns after high school students get sick from dabbing

A cannabis store owner from Billings, Montana wants to make people aware of the dangers of dabbing. His statement comes after some local high school students reported feeling sick after consuming some dabs.

Rich Abromeit, the CEO of Montana Advanced Caregivers, explained that dabs are much more concentrated than other marijuana products and that overdosing on them can feel and produce symptoms similar to intoxication.

“It would be like drinking too much,” he said. “You’re getting sick, you’re throwing up, you want to lie down. you will want to sleep You won’t be very coherent.”

Abromeit then said that dabbing is often used by medical marijuana users or people who have built up a tolerance to cannabis over the years. “If you come in with zero tolerance and use something that’s 80 percent THC, that would be a miserable experience,” he said. “Their average cannabis percentage these days is 18-22%. Dabs can be up to 90%, 92%.”

He then called for more education before consuming a product and equated cannabis with alcohol in terms of different strengths and effects depending on the type. “In my opinion, educating the public and public safety is the most important task that we have at the moment,” he said.

Earlier this week, two students at the local high school were taken to the hospital after overdosing on dabs.

Greg Upham, superintendent of public schools, encouraged parents to talk to their children about marijuana.

“You need to understand what this THC level (the active ingredient in marijuana) is and what legalizing marijuana means for our kids,” he said.

Despite the shock, all the students involved were doing well.
