Can you get the flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time?

Cool weather makes it easier for viruses to spread. When it’s cold outside, most people spend as little time indoors as possible and usually hang out with friends in indoor bars, apartments, or places to go out. With COVID-19 (or another virus) in the mix, this creates the perfect breeding ground for contagion.

Is it possible to get the flu shot and the COVID-19 booster at the same time? If you are a child and you are vaccinated, it is common to have different vaccinations, one at a time. But is it the same with COVID-19?

COVID-19 booster vaccinations will be generally available starting September 20th. A few months ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a 14-day waiting period between the COVID-19 vaccine and any other vaccine. This makes us all a little suspicious of its possible interactions with other elements. Add that to the surprisingly debilitating side effects of vaccination, and it’s okay to wonder if your two vaccinations should overlap or if you should put COVID-19 above the flu shot.

The COVID-19 vaccine is fairly new, so some caution should be understood, especially if you dealt with some intense side effects with your first or second vaccination. The answer is up to you; While it is perfectly safe to get both shots, unwanted side effects may be more likely and both arms could be a little bit sore.

Still, the flu shot remains a priority. This vaccination gives you a little bit of security and reduces the chances of contracting a disease in winter, at a time when a multitude of viruses are on the rise.
