Can you get high from vaping nicotine or cannabis?

E-cigarettes are now more popular than smoking cigarettes among teenagers and young adults, and their use is increasing rapidly.

If you're new to vaping, you may be worried: Does vaping get you high? It's a bit complicated! The answer to this question depends on the substance in the vaping device.

E-cigarettes or vapes can be used to deliver nicotine or cannabis (THC). Obviously, you can get cannabis concentrates with high vapor content. Vaping nicotine-containing e-liquids is completely different.

This article explains whether a nicotine or a THC vapor can make a person high and what effects they have on the human body.

What is vaping?

Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling an aerosol or vapor of a liquid or dry material that is heated in an electronically powered device called an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette), vape pen, or vape.

The liquid may contain flavorings, nicotine or marijuana concentrates (THC or CBD).

Does vaping nicotine get you high?

Nicotine is the main active ingredient in conventional cigarettes and e-cigarettes and is highly addictive.

Nicotine does not produce a “high” like psychoactive substances like THC. However, it triggers a release of adrenaline that can feel temporarily pleasant, called a “nic buzz.”

Nicotine stimulates your central nervous system to release certain hormones and neurotransmitters. When you vape or inhale nicotine, it enters the bloodstream and quickly travels to the brain.

A nicotine rush is caused by the release of a chemical called epinephrine (adrenaline), which increases your heart rate, increases your blood pressure, dilates your airways, dilates your pupils, changes your metabolism, and affects blood sugar levels.

It feels like a head rush, some people feel happy, some feel low gravity, some feel no gravity, some can't stand because of it, some just feel dizzy. Really depends.

Does vaping cannabis (THC) get you high?

Naturally! Vaping cannabis can get you high. This is why most people try marijuana.

The main psychoactive ingredient, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), acts on cannabinoid receptors in the brain that respond to pleasure. This releases a chemical called dopamine, which gives you a euphoric, relaxed feeling.

When you vape weed, the THC could enter your bloodstream quickly enough for you to reach your high within seconds or minutes.

THC levels typically peak after about 30 minutes and its effects may wear off after 1-3 hours. If you drink or eat weed, it may take many hours to completely sober up.

You can vape both cannabis flowers and concentrates! While most flower buds have a THC content of around 10-25%, concentrates can have a THC content of 50% to 90%.

Obviously, the high can definitely be more intense if you vape dabs or concentrates that have higher THC levels than typical flower.

Does vaping CBD get you high?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is also a cannabinoid, a type of natural compound found in cannabis and hemp.

Although it can be derived from the cannabis plant, it does not produce a “high” like cannabis or THC.

CBD has some positive health benefits, such as relieving symptoms of anxiety, neurological disorders, heart problems, and certain types of pain.

Vaping won't get you high unless it's THC-based.

Consuming or using CBD alone does not produce the “high” associated with THC.

With a regular vape you can achieve a type of “high” called a “nic rush”.

It's best to stick with reputable, regulated cannabis vaporizers.

THC products on the black market have made people seriously ill and, in some cases, even killed.
