Can CBD drive away the Monday blues?
Happy Monday, the start of a new week and endless possibilities and new adventures. But not everyone has the same attitude. In fact, a study found that Monday is the most stressful day of the week for 81% of workers. And 70% of employees admit to suffering from Sunday night terrors. The comic strip Garfield has a constant joke about how much he hates Mondays.
But why do we hate Mondays and can CBD take the edge off the first day of the traditional work week? The answer may be, but it’s also a start to developing a better perspective.

In general, we consider our days off as our own time that gives us control over sleeping, eating, and activities. When possible, people try to sleep more and relax. While this sounds great, it throws off the week’s sleep schedule and makes the Sunday night “bed routine” a little more difficult. Also, people are only allowed to set their alarm for the weekend when they have something planned and want to do, as opposed to the alarm on Monday morning.
The average weekend can include heavy eating and drinking. These things take a toll on you physically, which may be why a study found that American women of all ages and locations feel least attractive on Mondays.
CBD is legal, sold on Walmart and Amazon, and has various claims. But can it get you in a better mood for Monday? The answer is maybe. An analysis of the medical records of 72 psychiatric patients treated with CBD revealed a reduction in anxiety. Great start to the week. However, the same study found that it didn’t improve sleep, which is key to a good morning.
Another double-blind study found that healthy volunteers given CBD showed little to no change in their emotional response to uncomfortable images or words compared to the placebo group. “If it’s a sedative drug, it should alter their responses to the stimuli,” said Harriet de Wit, study co-author and professor in the University of Chicago’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience. “But that was not the case.”
There are many anecdotal reports of CBD relieving anxiety and making you a little more relaxed. While research is still being conducted into what CBD can do in the right dosage, you can try it and see for yourself. We know that CBD is not harmful and trying to change your perception is better than doing nothing.
