The CA State Fair Cannabis Competition and Awards marks “a turning point” for the cannabis community in California, said Brian Applegarth of Cultivar Brands on Tuesday, emphasizing that they will focus on educating and demystifying the plant.
The competition is open to all licensed breeders in California and will only be awarded for the cannabis flower medals that showcase the primary cannabinoids and terpenes that are expressed in the cannabis flower.

“We’re excited to have the California cannabis farmers seat at the table,” James Leitz, co-founder / CEO of Cultivar Brands, told Benzinga. “We’ll be leading the first cannabis flower awards, but our plan is to dig deeper in the years to come to discover even more of the properties of the plant, objectively through science and subjectively through judgment.”
Divided into three groups representing three primary categories for entry by the light source, including indoor, mixed-light, and outdoor, entrants will receive 77 bronze, silver, gold, and double gold medals, including the Golden Bear trophy for “Best.” “. from California. “
The CA State Fair will be held July 10 through July 26, 2022 at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, California. The submission period runs from November 1st, 2021 to March 30th, 2022.
The competition is objectively assessed through scientifically based analysis conducted and certified by SC Labs, the CA State Fair said.
