Bubbler vs. Bong | Fifth Ave Green House

Choosing the perfect smoking device can be a tricky process. When entering a head shop, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the multitude of pipes, bongs and smoking devices to choose from.

It seems impossible to figure out which one will suit you best without trying each of these devices. Fortunately, we can help you figure out which devices are right for you.

In this article, we will discuss bubblers and bongs which is the most suitable choice for you.

What is a bubbler?

While most of you may be familiar with the concept of a bong, many may not know what a bubbler is.

Basically it’s a mixture of a pipe and a bong.

Bubblers are compact and more like a large pipe, not dissimilar to the type of pipe you’d expect Sherlock Holmes to smoke.

However, they create a smoking experience that is closer to that of a bong.

The bubbler has a small chamber that water is poured into and this creates a large next one. The bowl is connected to the other side of the water chamber, so filtering the smoke will create bubbles when you hit it – hence the name.

Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of using a bubbler.

Advantages:

  • The water in the bubbler makes the smoke smoother than other pieces of glass like chillums, rollers or spoons.
  • The smoke is cooled and filtered, making it easy on your lungs and making you less likely to cough.
  • They are smaller and therefore easier to use than other hookahs.
  • These pieces are perfect for people who want a more intense smoking experience without having to invest a lot of money in something large and expensive like a glass bong.
  • They are more durable. If you knock over the bubbler, it is more likely to stay in one piece than the bongs because of their small size.
  • A bubbler is more stealthy than a bong – it makes a lot less noise when you get hit.

Disadvantage:

  • Cleaning them is torture. A bubbler can get really dirty – and quickly. And since you can’t take them apart, they can be a hassle to clean.
  • The water has to be changed more often and the glass gets dirty faster than a bong.
  • There aren’t a lot of options for customization. The bowl is not interchangeable – so if you break it you will have to replace the whole piece.

What is a bong?

This is a pretty silly question for someone buying one, but let’s look at some basics. Unlike the bubbler, the bong is usually much larger and more massive than the bubbler.

You have to put more water in, it’s more complicated, it’s generally considered to be something more advanced than pipes or fizzy drinks. Here’s a quick look at the pros and cons of a bong.

Advantages:

  • Bigger clouds and cracks. Since the bongs are much larger than the bubblers, the hit can be much bigger.
  • This will give you a better, longer lasting high than a bubbler.
  • Larger bowls mean they are more social. Bongs are better for sharing in groups and gatherings.
  • They are very fair for cleaning. The simpler bongs are straight pipes with removable stems and heads, which makes cleaning up a breeze.
  • The customization is endless. Not only can you mix and match different parts to create the perfect bong, but they come in many different shapes, sizes and shapes. Not to mention, you can go from incredibly simple to some of the most complex pieces of glass imaginable.

Disadvantage:

  • The larger complex water pipes made of glass can be very delicate. Unfortunately, you have to take care of your bong. The bigger it is, the more careful you need to be. If you drop it once on the floor, it can result in a very expensive accident.
  • They are difficult to store. Due to their size and unusual shape, there aren’t many convenient storage options for your bong.

Hopefully this will give you a better understanding of bongs and bubblers so you can make the right choice of which device will work best for you.
