Boomers and Gen Z use marijuana for similar reasons
Cannabis has become popular among all age groups of adults – but the surprise is that Generation Z and Baby Boomers use it for similar reasons.
Cannabis is completely legal for over 50% of the population and is enjoyed by all groups. It is proven to be healthier than alcohol and is widely used by all classes. Even Florida seems to want to vote for recreational cannabis use. For a long time it was stigmatized as a way to get high, laze around and lie around on the couch, but now it has become part of everyday life… and part of a health routine. An example of use: Baby Boomers and Generation Z use marijuana for similar reasons.

It's so accepted now that AARP did a study on use among the baby boomer generation. AARP is the largest print magazine with 38 million readers… and their bulletin has 33 million readers. A huge testament to this demographic. It also shows that they are more open to mainstream cannabis. This is consistent with the positions of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

The AARP study found that 21 percent of people over 50 have used some form of cannabis — whether in the form of food, beverages, flower or another type — at least once in the past year, according to a report from the University of Michigan's National Poll on Healthy Aging. That's up from 1 in 8 (12 percent) in 2021. In 2015 and 2016, about 3 percent of people over 65 used cannabis, according to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
About 68 percent of survey respondents who used cannabis products did so to sleep better, the researchers found. Many also cited pain relief (63 percent), mental health, anxiety and mood swings (53 percent), and relaxation (81 percent) as reasons for using cannabis.
Interestingly, the youngest generation of adults, Generation Z, are also huge marijuana fans. They helped start the California Sober trend, where people drink less or not at all and use weed instead. One reason Generation Z has embraced weed is because it helps with anxiety and mood swings. They also use it to relax, much more than other generations who are more likely to turn to alcohol.

Interestingly, some baby boomers and Generation X consume marijuana in a more traditional way, by smoking it. Generation X and baby boomers, who are new to consumption, tend to vape and use gummies. The latter two are more “on the go” and discreet and have no smell. It's interesting that marijuana connects two generations.
