Best Thanksgiving Movie Guide to Watch with Parents
It’s great to spend time with family and friends on vacation. Sometimes, after the big meal and before dessert, the conversation stalls. It could be that everyone is full, that we are missing safe or entertaining topics, or that everyone is just a little sleepy. So why not everyone come over and see something fun? Here is the best Thanksgiving movie guide to watch with your parents.
Die Hard
What else can you say? This classic is the perfect way to combine Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The safe decisions
- Moana: An animated film that is pleasant and calming in its familiarity, but still offers enough variety to keep you excited.
- Rogue One: The best war film of this year and the darkest Star Wars entry since The Empire Strikes Back.
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: If you haven’t seen this yet, you’re in trouble, but it’s a pleasant return to Rowling’s magical world
The space explorers
- Arrival: A film of the year, a serious Oscar contender and yet another reminder of how incredible Amy Adams is
- Passengers: While it’s critically panned – it’s not as bad as the Rotten Tomatoes rating suggests – old friends Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt also do J Law and Pratt things
The serious film fans
- Silence: Martin Scorsese’s three-hour epic based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel, which really impresses with its epic themes and performances
- La La Land: Revival of old-school musicals with endearing performances from Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Be prepared for singing and dancing.
- Jackie: The biopic whose tagline should have been “Natalie Portman really wants an Oscar.” If high profile actor vehicles are your thing, this is your film.
- Paterson: Adam Driver plays Paterson, a bus driver who lives in Paterson, New Jersey. A classic Jim Jarmusch movie with people just hanging out. According to our wonderful photo editor, it’s great.
The Denzel Washington film
- Fences: tour de force performances from Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, exactly what you want.
The funny ones
- Office Christmas Party: The actors seem tired and not really interested in the film, but it has enough aspects to please.
- Why him? James Franco and Bryan Cranston fight for the love of a daughter. In a bizarre world, this is a Breaking Bad spin-off. Instead, it’s a formulaic laugh.
