Arizona Dispensary Trading Pre-Rolls for Breast Cancer Bras |

A Phoenix area cannabis pharmacy chain is giving away free pre-rolled joints to customers who donate a bra to raise awareness of breast cancer while supporting a nonprofit group in Arizona. The Buds ‘n’ Bras campaign, a collaboration between Mint Cannabis and Check for a Lump, aims to highlight the urgent need for breast cancer screenings and raise funds for related support services.

Until October 15th, customers aged 21 and over who donate a new or carefully used bra to one of The Mint’s three larger Phoenix pharmacies will receive a free preselection. Those who donate 10 bras will also receive a free breast cancer t-shirt with a limit of one joint and one shirt per customer per day.

The bras are then given to Check for a Lump, who receives a monetary donation for each bra donated. The mint’s goal for the campaign is to collect 4,200 bras to support the nonprofit organization. During the seven-week campaign, the Mint will also donate $ 1 from every pre-roll sale to the nonprofit.

Vital screening is delayed due to a pandemic

In an era of health screenings delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, nearly 6,000 new breast cancer cases and 900 deaths are expected in Arizona this year, according to a statement from The Mint. A study by the IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science found that the number of mammograms has decreased by 87 percent compared to the same period last year.

To address this issue, Buds’ n ‘Bras’ campaign will include breast screening events held at their pharmacies in conjunction with Check for a Lump. The screenings will be carried out on board the mobile mammography bus (MOM) on Saturday, September 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Mint’s Phoenix pharmacy and on Saturday, October 9, at the Mesa site. Patients can call (480) 967-3767 to sign up for screening.

All Mint locations will also share information on how to participate in the Check for a Lump Pink Out 5K Walk / Run scheduled for Saturday October 2nd at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix. The company will also sponsor a booth at the event where new and carefully used bras will be collected for the nonprofit group.

The Buds ‘N’ Bras campaign kicked off on August 27th with a “bra raising” ceremony that took place with Check for a Lump at The Mint’s Tempe / Guadalupe location. At the event, breast cancer patients and survivors hung a series of bras across the pharmacy’s parking lot.

“Nothing beats watching dozens of bras flutter in the wind!” A spokesman for The Mint told the High Times in an email.

Arizona campaign off to a good start

So far, The Mint and Check for a Lump have already collected eight large plastic garbage bags “packed” with bras. The spokesman said that just one bag was too heavy to lift, adding that “the program has not even been running for a full two weeks at this point, so the response has been wonderful.”

Rudy Molina, director of Arizona Operations for The Mint, told the High Times in an email that “giving back to the communities we serve is a cornerstone of Mint cannabis. In particular, we want to help non-profit organizations that support our patients. We are happy to support organizations devoted to cancer, veterans, families and epilepsy, to name a few. “

“As we near Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, we wanted Arizona residents to think about giving through a different lens,” added Molina. “By asking Buds ‘n’ Bras for a new or gently used bra and then lace it up high above the pharmacy, Buds ‘n’ Bras offers a creative way for customers to give back while supporting a great local cause.”
