April 20, 2022 – What’s going on for 420 this year? – Cannabis News, Lifestyle

As public health lockdowns are lifted, everyone has one big question: what’s going on for 420 this year? April 20th is approaching and we can actually celebrate! While many Canadian cities love to celebrate for 420, celebrations in Vancouver and Victoria are legendary. For those of you wondering, here’s a look at the party plans for 420 in Vancouver and Victoria; plus all the important details on public health orders.

The current status of BC’s provincial restrictions

As of April 8, 2022, the nationwide restrictions on events and Covid-19 are essentially non-existent. There are no capacity restrictions, mask requirements and vaccination certificates are not required. Individual companies and event organizers may choose to continue to require proof of vaccination, but this is no longer mandatory. Wearing masks is a personal choice unless it is a healthcare facility. So far, none of the planned events for 420 require proof of vaccination.

More information can be found on the state government’s website.

Vancouver

Here’s a recap of 420 Vancouver 2018!

sunset at the beach

NO PARTY – Beach closed

Normally Vancouver celebrates 420 at Sunset Beach. However, this will not be the case and you can blame the barge. On November 15, 2021, a barge washed ashore and has been stuck on Sunset Beach ever since. Unfortunately, efforts to get the beast afloat have failed and the barge can only be removed piece by piece. How long that will take is anyone’s guess. In response to the situation, the City of Vancouver showed strong leadership and took action…they renamed the beach. The company tasked with the removal has to use the entire beach as a staging area and it looks like the process has begun. In support of these efforts, the City of Vancouver has temporarily closed Barge Chilling Beach.

The 12.00 – 22.00

Vancouver‘S 420 Celebrations are legendary and have been going on for over two decades. This year the party is back in full swing. Collective Event Management takes care of the implementation and Dusk2Dawn Productions sets up the stage. Cannabis Substitution Program founder Neil Magnuson will moderate the event; No music headliners have been announced. There will be an open air market and stall sales sell out quickly. This year, the event organizers are expecting a crowd of over 20,000 stoners.

Here’s an event map to give you an idea of what to expect.

The event will be followed by an afterparty at an undisclosed location. This takes place from 10pm to 6am and all are welcome.

Victoria

420 Celebration at the BC Legislature

Music from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m

The annual 420 Celebrations is a party with a purpose, and you can feel it when you head to Victoria. It takes place on the front lawn of the BC State House and the sale of vending machines is not technically allowed. As a result, this celebration is less of a market and all about having a good time. The event was organized by the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club and serves as a fundraiser for an upcoming legal battle. In January 2022, the VCBC received a $6.5 million fine from the Community Safety Unit.

Here’s what they had to say about this upcoming 420:

“We’ll be dancing and smoking together to Submersive Studios’ musical styles from 2pm to 6pm, with some booty-shaking basses powered by PK Sound. We will have speakers, awards and performers to fill the afternoon with magic and joy to celebrate this special day. Join us on Wednesday, April 20th for an afternoon of old-school cannabis protests, some awareness-raising on the pitfalls of the legal industry, to raise some money for the VCBC litigation, and reunite with our cannabis fam in celebration this important day.”

If you’re in Victoria or Vancouver, get ready to party because this 420 promises to be a very good time. Whatever your plans this year, we hope you have a Happy 420!
