Americans have been brightly lit for July 4th, sales data shows

Guys the numbers are in and my goodness you guys really gave it your all this Independence Day weekend.

Thanks to data provided by a handful of cannabis analytics and marketing companies, including Headset, Flowhub, and Lantern, we have some bold insights into the power of the 4th of July to get you, America’s fans of The Plant, to buy weed force. Lots of weed.

Read on to learn about the types of products people bought, when sales peaked, and how the holiday weekend compares to other times of the year.

Only 4/20 brought more sales than July 1st

We all know that April 20th is the Holy Grail, the biggest day for cannabis sales in America. But at least in 2022, July 1st gets to take home the silver medal.

According to data from Flowhub, sales on July 1 — which fell on a Friday — rose 15% more than an average Friday.

That aligns with what Leafly saw on its online ordering platform: On July 1, sales were up 17% from the previous Friday.

This data suggests that cannabis users wanted to stock up for the July 1st weekend and then party without having to go back to the store. Respect.

Sales remained strong over the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd – just a few percentage points above the average weekend sales figure – and then fell a little below the average Monday sales figure on the holiday itself.

Pre-rolls had a moment over the bank holiday weekend

It’s no surprise that consumers leaned into the holy trinity of flower, edibles and vapes over the bank holiday weekend.

But Headset reports that pre-rolls are up 6% specifically on July 4th.

Home-delivery platform Lantern presented similar data, noting that cannabis beverages were also gaining more traction than usual.

Canada Day didn’t go quite so well

While Americans were ready to open their wallets for Independence Day, our neighbors to the north didn’t fare quite the same for the national holiday, Canada Day, on July 1st.

Sales on the holiday itself fell 23% below the average for the previous four Fridays, according to Headset.

Ontario residents really didn’t feel like shopping, with holiday sales down 29%.

I guess Canadians just prefer to celebrate their national holidays in a different style, right?
