Airports have changed tremendously with weed being legal in NY

New York is one of the last states to legalize marijuana pending adult cannabis licenses. This brings with it many exciting plans for the future and some benefits that you can enjoy right now. The way marijuana is handled in airports is one of them, with TSA agents confiscating no less than three ounces of marijuana.

Marijuana and airports have always been controversial issues. We have covered them extensively. And while you’re not completely out of the woods when you have large amounts of marijuana with you at an airport, jail is no longer part of the equation when you have less than three ounces with you.

A port authority spokesman explained how the updated laws work. “New Yorkers 21 and older can own, purchase, and transport up to three ounces of cannabis,” he said of Gothamist. “Therefore, PAPD does not issue tickets, confiscate or arrest this amount at New York airports.” Higher amounts of marijuana will be arrested, so knowing how much you have on you is very important.

Legalizing marijuana in New York allows for several things, like owning up to three ounces and the ability to grow up to five pounds of cannabis at home. A closer look at the law reveals how much the industry could affect the New York economy: 40% of sales tax revenue goes to education, another 40% to families affected by marijuana criminalization, and 20% to drug treatment and public education programs public.
