A stoner’s last salute to the late Bob Saget

In the last twelve months we’ve lost two great comics, icons of their time. I am speaking, of course, of the late Norm McDonald and more recently Bob Saget, who died in a hotel room at the age of 65. Some of the newer generation might not be all that familiar with Bob Saget, but every stoner who lived during the 1990s and 2000s knew the man — most notably through his appearance in Dave Chappelle’s Half Baked.

People watching the clip may not fully understand the social context of this scene. Saget was best known at the time for his role on Full House as “Danny Tanner,” the widowed father of three girls. Aside from that, he was also the host of America’s Funniest Home Videos – which was essentially the precursor to shows like Ridiculousness. Essentially, the image of Bob Saget was the “nice guy,” the “family man,” essentially a television personality loved by the world. Then he’s suddenly seen in Half Baked asking Chappelle if he’s ever sucked on marijuana.

While no one knows exactly what caused Mr. Saget to die, we do know that he was found at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grand Lakes, according to the sheriff’s office. According to initial findings, there is no evidence of third-party debt or drug use. There is also no evidence of self-harm and according to the coroner – “a full investigation and investigation may take up to three months”.

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if anything new pops up in the coming months. Still, the world was shocked to learn that Bob Saget died at the age of 65.

Bob’s influence on weed…

When we think of “Bob” and cannabis, we usually think of Bob Marley first, but Bob Saget has a cannabis strain named after him called “Bob Saget” or “The Bob”. This sativa-dominant hybrid boasts over 20% THC and aims to give you a real energetic head high. Here’s a review from Leafly on the strain;

So I like to start off by saying this is the best strain I’ve ever tried and I’ve tried many. Until now, I’ve never felt the need to write a review of any strain. I have thyroid issues along with low blood pressure and low blood sugar so I always get panic attacks and anxiety. I can tell you that I felt like I couldn’t even have a panic attack with this strain if I wanted to. It puts your state of mind in such a happy state that it was almost impossible for me to get any kind of anxiety. This strain makes you feel calm but energetic, but not in a way that makes you feel like you need to move a lot, it just makes you feel alive. I laughed a lot and it just made me forget about any problems or stress in my life. I would highly recommend this to anyone as everyone goes through stress and this strain is definitely a stress reliever. 5 plus stars!!! – SOURCE

The strain took 2nd place at the 2016 Cannabis Cup in Colorado. Needless to say, Bob Saget’s influence has made an impression on the cannabis community, and if you’re lucky, a dispensary near you might stock some The Bob for you to smoke in solidarity. According to Saget himself, although he didn’t smoke himself, he loved the fact that there was a cannabis strain named after him.

Bob’s dirty style…

While Bob may have played a TV dad who entertained millions for years, he was actually a dirty motherfucker. His rendition of “The Aristocrats” was probably one of the most obnoxious and disgusting renditions of the joke.

If you do not know what the aristocrats are, then you will be delighted. I haven’t seen it in a while, but when I was a young, impressionable young stoner, the movie definitely rocked me. You can watch the trailer here. And if you’re interested in seeing Bob Saget’s rendition of the joke, you can watch it here. Now I must warn you, there will be a lot of vulgarity and profanity spoken if you click on the last link. If you are easily offended, better ignore this link and go for a walk – you will feel much better.

However, if you’re a depraved lunatic who enjoys our collective mind filth, then this connection is definitely a culmination into the amazing depths of darkness that was the mind of Bob Saget.

A stoner’s greeting…

Now that we’ve explored just a tiny fraction of who Bob Saget was, it’s time to pack a bong, roll a joint or blunt, pack a head and say hello to a man who lived to entertain . A man who, despite not smoking weed, had a strain named after him. A man who could say the craziest shit imaginable and yet had a face that made you think he was a nice guy.

In reality, Bob Saget was a nice guy – a nice guy with a dark, angular mind who managed to push the envelope and the boundaries of free speech. A lot of the old TV personalities are going back to their roots — comedy — but Bob was the kind of comic that kind of made you wince while laughing.

It’s always a sad day when a comedian dies, and while we may not have seen much of Bob Saget in public in recent years, he was someone who left a dent in a generation’s mass identity. Full House will be a little less crowded when Bob is gone…

Thank god you fucker! God fast!
