A Redditor Guide to Healthy Cannabis Use Part 2

Last week we tackled the first part of this Redditor healthy smoking guide. Today we continue the analysis.

If you want to read my first part of this guide, you can click here to access it. For those of you here for Part II, let’s get started – there’s still a lot to cover.

Create a token schedule

For committed long-term users, I recommend smoking in cycles based on your tolerance: start taking as little as possible, fight to keep your tolerance as low as possible, even if it inevitably increases, and if it increases too gets high, take a break for as long as necessary to restore balance to your brain. Example: 6 months on 45 days off

This is generally not a bad practice. We tend to make our consumption and habits cyclical. By taking a break or “fasting from an activity” you allow the body to reset itself. They remove all artificial (or external) cannabinoids and check how you are working with “nothing but yourself”.

This is important in order not only to keep your tolerance levels low, but also to see where cannabis is helping you. You never know what you’re missing until it’s gone and since you’ve artificially fed extra cannabinoids to your body – see what happens when there’s no way to measure the system.

I personally do a full detox every 3-4 months.

Check your tolerance levels

Less is more (so much more) – low tolerance allows you to see the nuances between the stems, reduce the severity of withdrawal, and allow you to use it for a longer period of time. Protect your tolerance. Your skin will look better, you will feel better, I really believe in it because it has helped me so much

This is a subjective point of view in my opinion. You can still see the nuances between strains, because despite an established resistance to THC, every experienced breeder / toker should know that the effects of cannabis also have a lot to do with terpenes and other smaller cannabinoids.

The “small nuances” of each variety can be felt regardless of your THC tolerance. Of course, the benefit of keeping your tolerance levels low is quite extensive.

  1. You need less to get high

  2. That saves money in the long run

  3. You enjoy the high a little more

When smoking weed becomes a chore, it’s time for a detox.

Withdrawal is also subjective – there are times when I smoke like a hippie and quit the “cold turkey” with little to no side effects. But I am – other people may experience it differently.

Finally, listen to your body.

CBD is essential

CBD is essential if you want to consume long-term and most importantly, if you want to stay sane. Using too long without CBD makes me more anxious, I enjoy weed less, and I feel like I never get a break from the spacey / psychedelic side of weed. When you add CBD into the equation (I add it around 2-3x a week) you can soften that racy / fearful edge of Thc and use it longer / healthier. Using more CBD takes away the euphoria from the weed high

I haven’t felt “scared” of grass in a long time. It doesn’t happen to me. However, my wife can get a little anxious at times when she smokes a strong strain.

Here, too, every organism is unique and therefore we have to know our own body beyond the suggestions of an Internet post. Nonetheless, I agree that adding CBD to your diet can help with many things. I use THC and CBD in different ways.

If you are a naturally anxious person, taking CBD can help alleviate the problems – but unless you use other natural stress relief techniques like meditation, yoga, or breathing work – regardless of the amount of CBD you take, you can I will not dwell on the cause.

CBD for withdrawal

CBD is also a great withdrawal agent, it doesn’t eliminate all symptoms but it relieves many. Taking something for sleep loss on nights 2 through 5 can avoid unnecessary discomfort, but there is always a risk adding another substance when you are most vulnerable

While it’s true that CBD will help you with your withdrawal symptoms, for me it fails to purify. When I reset my body – I do it completely.

Of course, if you’re just doing T-breaks, then using CBD to calm the nerves is an excellent idea. It even helps with withdrawal from smoking tobacco and alcohol. CBD has many other benefits and, as mentioned in the previous point, it should be part of your diet.

However, if you want to take a cannabis break, take a full break to measure your endocannabinoid system and see what it takes more or less of.

Too much smoking makes you an asshole?

something that has struck me and many others is that walking too long (without pausing) decreases your ability to empathize with others, makes you lose touch with normal social cues, and makes you angry more easily. This state can be hard to notice, and I have damaged relationships in the past when this happened

Here I fully agree with the Redditor.

If smoking cannabis makes you less empathetic, you have some serious problems. Of course, if you are trying to numb yourself because life is unbearable, you are likely to be a little “cuntish” by nature.

However, I have seen the opposite in my 20+ years of smoking, people tend to become more empathetic and more tolerant of other people’s needs. But that is again very subjective. I wouldn’t even have included this point on my list unless I had included very subjective points.

Change varieties

If you have access to variety, I recommend that you keep switching to new strains, and not just because it will tear you apart every time. As we all know, the beauty of weed lies in its chemical diversity and the enormous range of emotional experiences it can offer. Additionally, smoking a variety of strains makes me feel healthier compared to 1 or 2

As mentioned earlier, since there is a cannabinoid profile that differs from strain to strain – this should be standard knowledge.

The advantages of long breaks

long breaks are necessary, I have never regretted taking one, and when all these repressed reward systems in your brain wake up again you will feel overwhelmed by the beauty of the world and the wonder of life. This is such an underrated aspect of cannabis use: this radical shift in perspective. After going through this process a few times, you will likely look forward to long breaks because they are like a drug in themselves

I think that tolerance breaks should be at least 21 days.

Use weed to your advantage

Use the effects of weed to your advantage wherever possible: smoke to consistently fall asleep at the same time (this alone will give you a massive boost to the health of the IME), use the nibbles to devour healthier foods, use weed to to motivate you to exercise, etc.

Weed has advantages, so use it to your advantage. It can help you sleep, help you with your appetite, it help you recover faster. If there are benefits and you don’t get them – you’re not doing it right!

What about dabs?

Concentrates are great, they should be celebrated like flowers, but they’re stronger and can be a little addicting, which doesn’t mean you can’t use them like flowers. That doesn’t mean you should look at them any other than flowers (we don’t demonize schnapps juts because they’re stronger than beer, after all). Dabbing allows you to satiate all of those hungry receptors at once, which is just more addicting – that goes for all substances, doesn’t mean dabbing is bad

Dabbing means you can consume less for more. So if you follow the spirit of this guide, you’ll be fine too!

Cannabis makes it harder to make memories?

Weed makes it harder to create memories, store information, etc. Yes, you can be a super functional stoner and perform well, but memories are the substance of life and intelligence, and if you rob yourself of the ability, new memories last for a long time to save enough it will hurt you. This is another reason I believe in 100% off or being: give yourself a chance to make crystal clear memories

Again, this is subjective. This has no real scientific basis and could affect some, but in most cases it shouldn’t be a problem. I have been smoking for almost 20 years and can still vividly remember many things.

This is because I am actually working on improving my memory. Additionally, cannabinoids like CBD and THC induce neurogenesis, which means they can repair broken neurons.

Proper sleep is more beneficial than “not smoking” for storing memories.

The sticky end result

Overall, the guide is a good one – most people would do well to follow this guide. From an experienced stoner’s point of view, however, it is usually your best bet to follow your own gut instinct.
