A new study just proved that marijuana users have more sex
The image of people who use marijuana is like a stoner on a couch, maybe playing video games or listening to “freaky” music. But you have to keep in mind that it’s nothing but an enhancer drug — flavors, the five senses, and, according to researchers, sex. A study in the Journal of Sexual Medice shows that not only can weed improve sex, but marijuana users have more sex in general.
The researchers analyzed data from the National Survey of Family Growth going back to 2002. Although this data indicated increased sexual behavior after marijuana use, the results are still a bit grim. But it is clear that age is not a factor in increasing the fun.
“We reported how often they smoked—monthly, weekly, or daily—and how often they had sex in the past month,” says Dr. Michael Eisenberg, a urologist at Stanford University Medical Center and senior author of the study. “What we found was that those who reported using daily had about 20% more sex compared to never users. So over the course of a year they might have sex 20 more times.”

Women in the study had sex an average of 7.1 times per month when using marijuana, while men had sex 6.9 times per month. Those who abstain entirely? In women it was 6 times per month versus 5.6 times per month in men.

Researchers accounted for alcohol, cocaine use, religion, children and the results remained constant. No matter who or what a person worships, what illegal substances they use, or how many children they already have, if they smoke pot regularly, they use it more often.
Mitch Earlywine, a cannabis expert and psychologist at the University of Albany, points out that the statistics don’t mean marijuana itself is to blame.

“In some surveys we have seen these people [who use cannabis] “I did have more sex, but it seemed mediated by this personality type that’s willing to try new things or seek thrills,” Earlywine said. Translation: If you’re already adventurous and willing to try new things, you might be more adventurous in bed too.
While this study of sex may or may not have nailed the factors (although they may have!), one thing is for sure. If you’re a frequent cannabis user, you’ll have more sex, and it’s probably nice improved sex to boot!
