New York examines cannabis vape brands for illegal procurement allegations
How we came here
New York's Legal cannabis market has made numerous challenges since its foundation, including delays in licensing, competition by illegal sellers and regulatory hurdles. The strict requirements of the state require that all cannabis products sold in New York have to be cultivated, processed and packed to support local agriculture and to ensure product safety.
Investigation of VAPE brands
In May 2025, the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) initiated a study of prominent cannabis vape brands, including Stiiizy and Mfused. The probe focuses on allegations that these companies sold products with cannabis that come from non -licensed, non -state suppliers and violate state regulations. VAPE cartridges worth approximately $ 10 million and pre-rolled connections were drawn from the shelves as part of this investigation.
The products in question were processed by Omnium Health, which claims that all discrepancies are due to documentation errors and claims that every extraction has occurred in a state -licensed institution.
Regulatory and industry effects
This investigation contributes to the ongoing examination of the New York cannabis regulation framework. At the beginning of the year, the state's budget led 254 billion US dollars to significant changes to the Cannabis Control Board (CCB), including the elimination of the annual salary of 229,000 US dollars by Chairman Tremaine Wright, with other unpaid chairman of the state board.
Industry leaders have expressed concerns about the regulatory approach of the state. Boris Jordan, CEO von Curaleaf, criticized the high fees of the state for the transition to the leisure market and the perceived lack of enforcement against illegal cannabis products outside the state that occur in legal memory. “New York asked us to invest, and now they are trying to strike down,” said Jordan.
As a result of these regulatory challenges, six of the original ten medical cannabi companies of the state have decided not to expand into the turnover of adults. The number of registered medical patients also decreased from 150,000 in 2021 to 95,000, even if the leisure time increases pharmacies.
