How to Fix a Clogged Vape Pen
If you find that your vape cart is clogged, don't despair. With a little expertise and patience, you can get your vape pen working again.
It is incredibly disappointing when you take a drag on your e-cigarette and then find that it is clogged.
If you are unable to inhale properly from the vaporizer, there is a problem – most likely your vaporizer or cartridge is clogged.
This can also mean that instead of the smooth, aromatic vapor you expected, you get a nasty hit of liquid or sticky oil on your hands.
Cause of Vape Cartridge Clogging
Two main reasons for vape carts to become clogged are condensation and chamber overflow.
But don't worry! With the simple solutions listed below, you can easily prevent and fix these problems.
condensation
Clogged cartridges are usually the result of condensation building up in the airways. As this condensation builds up, it eventually clogs the mouthpiece and makes it difficult to inhale. This results in a clogged mouthpiece and a bitter taste from the vape juice instead of the delicious THC flavor you were expecting.
Condensation is usually a warning sign before it becomes a real problem. If you've ever noticed small droplets of liquid on your lips when you whip a drink, that's a sign of this condensation.
Don't wait for a frustrating problem to develop – as soon as you notice the taste of liquid on your lips and tongue while inhaling, take immediate action to repair the clogged cartridge.
Chamber overflow
The second reason for cartridges to become clogged is overflowing of the chamber. This happens when the cartridge has been left unused for a long time.
When stored at room temperature, the distillate can thicken. Over time, this causes the distillate to sink to the bottom of the cartridge where it saturates the coil. When this happens, the heating element (coil) has difficulty reaching the correct temperature to effectively vaporize the liquid.
If your vaporizer is not producing the expected amount of vapor and the battery is properly charged, you probably have this problem.
Another indication of a chamber overflow is a burnt taste or smell, if you smell a burning odor when pulling on the cartridge. If you smell a burning odor or taste, it is best to stop vaping immediately. Continuing to heat the soaked wick will cause irreparable damage and render the cartridge and its contents unusable.
How to fix a clogged vape cart?
If your vape cartridge clogs up, don't panic. It's a common problem and with our straightforward troubleshooting guide, you'll be back to using your vape in no time.
Method No. 1: Remove minor blockages (condensation)
Step 1: Pull through the mouthpiece
The first step to clearing a cartridge clogged by excessive condensation is to suck or pull vigorously through the mouthpiece without activating the atomizer. This will remove any excess liquid that collects in the suction nozzle. While this is a quick fix, the cartridge may become clogged again if you do not proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Remove excess liquid
To completely clean the cartridge, you must remove excess liquid from the mouthpiece.
You can use a thin wire, a needle or a paper clip.
Gently insert the tool into the mouthpiece and scrape away any accumulated debris by moving it back and forth along the inside of the mouthpiece.
Be careful not to damage the inside of the cartridge. Most buildup can be removed this way because Delta-8-THC is thick, dense and sticky. It is recommended to perform this task while the cartridge is cold as the liquid will be thicker.
Step 3: Remove trapped dirt
The third step to unclogging the vape cartridge is to apply heat to dissolve any residue in the mouthpiece. This can be done with a hairdryer or by submerging the cartridge in warm water in an airtight bag. The heat will help to loosen the clog and allow the viscous liquid to flow back into the chamber. Once heated, leave the cartridge upright to allow the liquid to settle.
Method 2: Clearing a severe clog (flooded coil)
Step 1: Gently shake the cart from side to side.
Shaking the cartridge can redistribute the fluid and loosen any deposits. Sometimes this simple step is all it takes to get the cartridge working again.
Step 2: Blow air into the car.
The next step in solving the problem of a flooded chamber car is to remove excess fluid.
Blowing air through the mouthpiece of the cartridge container or the bottom of a disposable pen can help remove fluid buildup around the wick and coil.
If you have a refillable cartridge, you can remove the cap of the cartridge, remove the excess liquid from the wick and coil, and reassemble it. Remember, you can clear a flooded chamber with air, but you should not inhale as this will only saturate the coil further and thus make the problem worse.
Step 3: Activate the vape.
One final solution to fix a flooded chamber in your vape cart is to briefly activate the pen. The heat will burn off the excess oil.
Do not inhale while doing this as this will only make the problem worse by drawing more oil into the coil.
A quick two or three second burst of heat should remove any remaining liquid and clean the chamber. If all else fails, it may be time to invest in a new cartridge or replace the coil and wick if you have a refillable tank.
Diploma
If you find that your vape cart is clogged, don't despair. With a little expertise and patience, you can get your vape working again.
Whether it's a light buildup of condensation or a flooded chamber, the two methods above can help you clear the blockage and get back to vaping.
Always be careful when cleaning the cart as it can be irreparably damaged by overheating or inserting objects too deeply. If all else fails, contact your local vape shop or a professional. Happy vaping!
