New Yorkers can now order legal weed online from Leafly

The state’s disappointing rollout of legal cannabis just got a little more exciting with the addition of online weed ordering for same-day pickup.
Yes, last week a New York judge ruled that cannabis dispensaries using Leafly can both advertise and accept online orders for pickup in the Empire State. The service is activated at these stores as of press time:
These are adult-only stores that now accept ordering, as well as the 80 medical-only stores in New York. But what does that mean? Read on for the details.
What is ordering weed online in New York?
For the first time in the state’s history, New York’s approximately 800,000 smokers will be able to place a legal cannabis order online, check out and pick up their order at a licensed dispensary.
It saves you the time and hassle of shopping at the store, where you might end up parking behind a tourist who wants to know everything about the menu. There’s nothing wrong with that, but some of us have things to do.
Previously, you had to go to one of the few legal pharmacies in New York, stand in line, look at the menu, order, pay and drive off. It was like that in the 1990s.
But it’s 2023 – now you can browse pharmacy menus on your phone while you wait for the subway to run. Place an order for pickup later in the day. Stop by the weed shop after work, show your ID, pick up your bag, pay and drive off.
Who is it legal to order cannabis online in New York?
Only dispensaries that advertise on Leafly, which Benzinga named “Best Tech Platform for Weed Consumers of 2023.” Other pharmacies are going online for collection. Currently the list includes:
These are licensed so-called “Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensaries” (CAURD), as opposed to an illegal courier service, an unlicensed bodega or a man in a park. These “CAURD” stores are suitable for everyone aged 21 and over. They operate in addition to the state’s 80 medical-only pharmacies. The medical pharmacies also have orders.
Who is eligible to place an online order?
You must be at least 21 years old, provide a valid ID and have cash to pay for the order. That’s pretty much it. Early adopters who like to try new things will love it. This also applies to tourists from other legalization states who are already familiar with online ordering. If you can use a takeout food app, you can order takeout from Leafly Canabis.
How does ordering weed online in New York work?
- Download the Leafly app on your phone or open a desktop browser and go to Leafly.com.
- Select your “location” at the top right.
- Browse the menus of the pharmacies near you.
- Tap “Add to Cart” for the herbs you want.
- Tap the shopping cart at the top right and then proceed to checkout.
Review your order and then click “Place Order.”
What happens next?
The shop takes your order, prepares it for you and notifies you via SMS when it’s ready. Orders can be filled in just a few minutes or take several hours to complete.
