He/She/They/Weed – Mariajuana affects genders differently

No matter what you identify, marijuana can affect you differently depending on your gender. Female/male based research is rare and much more medical marijuana research needs to be done. Here are five ways cannabis can affect men and women differently:

Women may also experience more pain relief than men due to THC’s relationship to estrogen. Research conducted on mice supports this notion, showing that females experience 30% more relief than males. Men need to consume far more cannabis to experience the same pain relief.

Washington State University researchers have found evidence that women are more likely to develop a tolerance to marijuana than men. This is positive as they need to smoke a lot more to get the usual high. This trait was demonstrated in a study conducted on mice, which proved that females developed resistance within 10 days, at which point they required a much higher dose of cannabis to show a reaction to the plant.

Ironically, Stanford Medicine conducted a study on sex and marijuana that shows that despite the concerns of doctors and scientists that frequent marijuana use may impair sexual desire or sexual performance, the opposite appears to be the case. In low doses, cannabis improves women’s libido, but high doses have the opposite effect due to the way THC affects estrogen, affecting it and making women less interested in sex. It is more complicated in men as it increases their libido shortly after smoking when consumed in low doses. When consumed in high doses, the increase in libido is much shorter.
