How and where to buy legal weed in New York?
It’s almost time! The first pharmacies for adults in New York will open their doors in a few days. Here’s how to find legal shops and delivery services across the state on day one and beyond.
So far, New York has issued 36 business licenses out of a total of 175 to its first wave of cannabis shop owners. With the first day of legal sales just days away (December 29th), it’s still not clear where or how to order from many of the newly licensed retailers.
Only two store locations have been confirmed by the state and business owners — the nonprofit Housing Works and The Doe Fund, both of which will open limited brick-and-mortar stores on day one in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, just blocks from each other.
Don’t believe the hype. If you don’t see federally licensed stamps certifying you are in a legal dispensary, smoke at your own risk. Each licensed store and product will have stamps and QR codes (left) to distinguish them from illegal stores masquerading as legitimate dispensaries. (Leafly / iStock: 400t max)
Other nonprofits could join them to serve personal buyers, while delivery schedules for all other licensees should roll out in the coming days. We will update you as details emerge. Most stores will be limited to supply-only while building new retail stores just two months after receiving license approval.

Personal
Few of the 36 licensed retailers have brick-and-mortar locations ready for day one. So far, two Manhattan stores have confirmed that they will see long lines and smiling customers on the historic first day of legal weed sales in The Hempire State.
The Doe Fund and Housing Works, both in Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan, will open at 11:00 a.m. on December 29, 2022. Expect long waits if you plan on attending the one-time smoking session, which is sure to begin before and after it goes on sale on Broadway.
Delivery
Most new weed stores in New York open by delivery first. Details of who is open for delivery and how to place an order will be added to this article as the facts become available.

Housing Works has the only confirmed location and hours of operation in the state to date. Expect a historic demonstration by first-time pharmacy buyers downtown. This nonprofit organization serves over 15,000 people living with HIV/AIDS annually, making it the nation’s largest community-based AIDS service group and minority-controlled AIDS organization.
Housing Works’ new pharmacy will occupy a large area that was previously a Gap retail location. The store has 4,000 square feet on the main level plus 2,000 more on a lower floor, but will have limited opening while the entire building undergoes renovations in the coming months.

The Doe Fund store will be rebranded ahead of opening in the coming weeks. It operates from the ground floor of a five-story building one block from Union Square Park, a Whole Foods, and a major subway station.
