Weed strains like Jealousy – Leafly Strain of the Year 2022

Furious! The cannabis world made great strides in 2022 as more East Coast states launched their adult-use markets and two more voted to legalize cannabis. That means millions of Americans no longer have to play the green-eyed monster and will soon have access to the Leafly Strain of the Year 2022 – Jealousy!

A cross between Gelato #41 and Sherbet bx1, Jealousy exhibits all the best traits that made us all fall in love with Gelato and Sunset Sherbert genetics from the first toke. She’s a real head turner with bold purple buds that shine like a Rolex and a nose you’ll always smell; The candy terpenes with earthy notes will be the envy of every room you walk through. But while it’s available in over 1,500 stores nationwide, you won’t always be able to find Jealousy in stock at your local store or at your favorite “guy” as such a new strain.

Don’t get FOMO yet. We’ve put together a list of comparable strains, both in terms of genetics, effects, and taste, that will keep you hooked in the meantime.

I mean duh! At this point, all it takes is to say gelato to evoke its winning attributes – delicious pannacotta backgrounds with a diesel kick, beguiling buds in shades of purple and green, and a high that both patients and casual smokers love. Much of Jealousy’s reputation comes from its parent, Gelato. San Francisco spawned a legacy of Cookies strains, and Sherbinski takes the crown for creating Gelato from Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC. With many Cannabis Cup placings of their own, Gelato’s offspring have now twice made it to Leafly’s Strain of the Year. We know it won’t be the last.

Sunset Sherbert

Sherbert is one of the original members of the Cookies family, a sweeter Cookies cousin with less skunk and a spicier sugar flavor that keeps the sesh smooth. It’s both a parent and grandparent to Jealousy (remember Jealousy is Gelato 41 x Sherbert bx1), but we forgive the Targaryen-like strain pedigree for the intense zen effects of Sunset Sherbert, bakery terpenes and pretty greens buds. Without them we wouldn’t have gelato and with it a whole generation of award-winning strains.

GSC

This iconic strain quickly made a name for itself in the Bay Area – it’s hot as hell, sweet but also savory, dense and elegant. Is it fair to call GSC the Beyonce of weed? It never fails to show up, show itself and reinvent the weed wheel. There’s a reason she became the first strain and namesake of Berner’s cannabis empire – everything you do feels and tastes like a treat. GSC will never go out of style.

runt

We were able to highlight around 100 rap songs that convey the inimitable qualities of Runtz, our 2020 Strain of the Year. Runtz is somehow sweet and sour, tangy and gassy, pungent and soothing. Jealousy and Runtz are like half-sisters competing to be the golden child of the weed world; Runtz’ Zkittlez and Gelato lines make it a little fruitier and cerebral than Jealousy. Since Yung LB took Runtz to the streets, the strain has spawned dozens of new iterations while breeders tinker with its multi-platinum qualities. When Runtz is on the menu, people buy it.

Caleb Chen, founder and editor of The Highest Critic, believes gelato “is one of them [strains] that came at just the right time; it hit the mainstream and the underground at the same time.” During his research, Chen found that “gelato” is the subject and even the title of 42 different rap songs.

Biscotti

Like an Italian waffle, Biscotti serves class with a hefty helping of chocolate chips. A short toke will melt away any worries, although some may need a mid-day rest after smoking. Biscotti is a cousin of Jealousy, made from a Gelato #25 Pheno and South Florida OG bred by the Cookies family. It’s an earthier, OG-forward rendition of those caryophyllene-driven terps that will clear the palate of any sesh cast.

You won’t go insane or fight Batman, but a Joint Jokerz will definitely make you smile big. This is a second cousin of Jealousy, but his stony expression and billowing terps laced with sweetness will have you thinking they’re twins. And her marbled buds of green and purple, drenched in calyxes, is no laughing matter. Compound Genetics wisely bred Jokerz from White Runtz and Jet Fuel Gelato. Among other honors and a lot of buzz, Jokerz won Oregon’s 2022 Leaf Bowl from more than 250 entries.
