The GOP group warns that legalizing cannabis will lead to “violent crime” and “suicide”.

The Republican Study Committee (RSC) — a faction of 156 members of the GOP House of Representatives — unveiled the Family Policy Agenda, which outlines 14 family-focused principles, including the Dangers of Drugs section, which is all about legalizing cannabis and how it leads to violent crime and suicide. The overarching goal of the agenda is “Restoration of the American Family.”

Out of the 14 principles, 80 legislative recommendations are provided to achieve and align with the goals of the GOP faction. But the drug department’s dangers were focused on cannabis — not other drugs like synthetic opioids, which were responsible for over three-quarters of drug overdose deaths last year, according to the CDC.

“Marijuana remains a state-controlled substance, but that hasn’t stopped a growing number of states and localities from legalizing it under their own laws,” the Family Policy Agenda says in the “Protecting Children from Drug Dangers” section. “This has led to an explosion in marijuana use among children, which is having a tremendously negative impact on their health.”

The agenda continues: “Congress should not legalize marijuana while taking steps to limit the ability of this new industry to harm children. At a minimum, Congress should direct the CDC to collect data and conduct studies on the health effects of THC use in childhood and early adolescence, with a particular focus on deaths from suicide and individuals involved in violent crime, to inform Congress and the public to further inform information about these dangers.”

What is the solution to the dangers of pot? Ridding America of candy-flavored drugs is the order of the day just before Halloween season, when trick-or-treating is on the way.

“Also, Congress should pass the Protecting Kids from Candy-Flavored Drugs Act introduced by RSC Chairman and Congressman Jim Banks (R-IN), which would increase criminal penalties for anyone found to manufacture or distribute drugs disguised as candy . “It says on the agenda.

The RSC, led by Chairman Banks, issued an announcement on the agenda as a whole.

“The Biden presidency has failed America’s families,” Chairman Banks wrote in a Sept. 29 press release. “Over the past two years, families have lost savings, flexibility and control over child-rearing to increasingly hostile and far-left ideologues. The Republicans must position themselves as the party of families. At the next Congress, we must focus on reforming the tax code to raise more families, pass anti-life laws, protect parents’ wallets, and give them back control of their children’s education.

“All of these guidelines are well-loved and trusted, and we’ve seen the difference parents can make on Election Day. If Republicans can compare our efforts to Democrat interference and control, then I think parents will have a critical role to play in 2022 and 2024.”

The RSC’s Family Policy Agenda is supported by groups such as SBA Pro-Life America and CatholicVote.

Not everyone agrees with the RSC’s dedicated section on cannabis. For example, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) and Brian Mast (R-FL) voted in favor of the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, reports Marijuana Moment.

Others are doing just the opposite and following the agenda to stop candy flavored cannabis.

For example, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and 24 other GOP members introduced legislation last August that would expand criminal penalties for the manufacture and sale of Schedule I drugs — including cannabis — in the form of candy and beverages, in their opinion, increase would be marketed to minors. Under this law, persons prosecuted for selling cannabis products in the form or flavor of candy to minors can face up to 10 years in prison for the first offense and up to 20 more years for the second and subsequent offences.

However, Sens. Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have been reinstating similar laws for years.
