When Puffco launched the Peak E-Rig in 2018, dabbing was an opaque underground culture accessible only to torch-wielding super stoners. If we look to the present, the brand has become synonymous with innovation in this space, consistently releasing products that not only appeal to the hyper-insular cannabis subculture, but push that culture forward by providing hash highs make it accessible to the mainstream.

Concentrates are an effective way to consume cannabis, but the genre has been marred by stigma and a lack of visibility. People are afraid of what they don’t know, and dabbing isn’t something they encounter in social situations like a joint or a jelly bean.

Where the Peak and Peak Pro took dabbing from the basement to the coffee table, the Proxy takes it from your living room to the street. Not only does the versatile design of the atomizer tank invite glass artists to contribute to a whole new range of accessories, but the portability of the waterless pipe-shaped device has also made hash consumption easier and more discreet than ever.

What is the Puffco Proxy?

The Puffco Proxy is a portable, modular vaporizer that aims to create a fully customizable experience. While other modular dab devices are designed to fit into existing glass rigs or bongs, the Proxy requires glass to be designed around it.

The base proxy unit is basically like a handheld, rubberized version of the 3D chamber atomizer found in the Peak Pro device. The ceramic chamber heats evenly on all sides, with an Oculus carb cap with directed airpath to maximize vapor production.

Upon purchase (for $299), the device comes with a small and discreet Sherlock tubular glass case. In true Puffco fashion, the Sherlock shape is a nod to classic stoner culture and channels the Gandalf whistles of our youth that are rarely seen anymore.

Puffco will be releasing additional accessories in the coming months, and glass artists are already creating stunning works to house this little invention. Part of what is created with this device is anticipation of what is yet to come.

How does it work?

Similar to Peak and Peak Pro, the Proxy uses a simple push button interface with four programmed heat settings: Blue (low), Green (medium), Red (high), and White (peak).

Also included with the Proxy is a carrying case, charging tool, dual tools, and USB-C charging cable.

How to use Puffco proxy

1. Fully charge the device
2. To unlock and lock the device, press and hold the main button for three seconds
3. Click once to cycle through heat settings
4. Use the loading tool to add the concentrate of your choice to the 3D chamber
5. Place the carburetor cap on top of the chamber and press down until snug
6. Double-click the main button to start heating – a pulsing light will indicate the device is heating up
7. The device will vibrate and the lights will flash three times when ready
8. Breathe in gently
9. Use the dry Dual Tool to clean the chamber after each use

How to Clean Puffco Proxy

Cleaning the proxy is quick and easy, so you’ll be back to using it in no time.

2. Easy cleaning: Use a cotton swab to gently remove any residue with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol
3. Thorough cleaning: Soak chamber in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes – never use water

1. Gently clean the gold contact points with cotton swabs soaked in isopropyl alcohol
2. Clean the airway between the bases with a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol

Glass

1. Submerge in isopropyl alcohol after removal
2. Rinse with water after soaking
3. Let it dry thoroughly

What’s the appeal?

The Puffco Proxy is the most groundbreaking concentrate device since the original Peak was released. I’ve been reviewing devices for years and I believe this is one of the coolest cannabis products ever in terms of innovation and cultural potential, even outside of the dabbing realm.

The best way to describe the Proxy – in its usual Sherlock form – is an electronic pipe that lets you smoke hash as if you were smoking weed: anywhere, anytime, anywhere. The beauty of it is so simple.

While I was concerned that the lack of water would make the smoke too harsh, I found the proxy hit smooth and extremely flavorful. Not only did I not miss the water, but I also preferred the dry smoking experience. The flavor is stronger and overall feels more casual than the bong-like Peak or Peak Pro, both of which give off a more ceremonial energy and are better suited for home use.

The e-rig market is a particularly brutal market, made up mostly of chintzy landfill fodder and endless iterations of knockoffs gutting terps with a red-hot coil—then rupture a week later.

Puffco’s meticulous design process creates products that create culture, not trash, and raise the bar conceptually, aesthetically and functionally light years ahead of the competition. Proxy might be Puffco’s best yet, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
