What should you look out for when buying cannabis pre-rolls? (purchasing guide)
Whether you’re new to the world of marijuana or just looking to try something new, pre-rolls are fantastic.
Pre-rolls are essentially joints that have already been professionally rolled, usually by a machine. These are sold individually or in packs, but most importantly, they make it so much easier and simpler to enjoy a good smoke. The work has been cut out for you; Everyone can enjoy pre-rolls, including people who already know how to roll a joint.
Pre-rolls are amazing for so many reasons. They are so convenient to consume that they are perfect for beginners, but it’s no surprise that even experienced cannabis users love them. You’ll also save time consuming them, plus they come in a wide range of sizes and strains. They also come in a variety of price ranges, from affordable and budget-friendly to high-end and even luxurious.
With so many pre-rolled joints on the market, how do you choose the right one for you? Worry no more, check out our handy guide below:
-
Type of Preroll: Prerolls can be made from flower, shakes, or a mix of both. Shakes are basically small pieces of cannabis flowers that have fallen off the bud; these can be found on the floors of cannabis dispensaries or in mason jars containing your buds.
Some manufacturers make pre-rolls from the shake of a variety of strains and then use machines to automate the joint-making process, resulting in those perfect cones to smoke. But just because a bag is filled with shake doesn’t mean the quality is bad; You just have to make sure there are no leaves or stems in the shake.
-
Buy from a reputable producer: Not only do you have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what went into each cone, but reputable cannabis producers are completely transparent and provide you with information on how they grow or process their cannabis.
If organic cannabis is important to you, then look for it. For others, they prefer artisanal cannabis or marijuana grown in a specific area. There is no right or wrong answer – it all comes down to personal preference. If you’re serious about spending money on luxury pre-rolls, it’s wisest to keep an eye out for those that are worth spending money on. These are usually companies that issue a Certificate of Analysis (COA).
-
Strain: Check the strain used in the pre-roll. Each cannabis strain has its own profile of effects, but again, it will come down to personal preference. If you’re looking for an uplifting and energizing high that won’t make you sleepy, opt for a sativa strain. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something to help you relax or fall asleep at the end of the day, go for an indica.
Hybrids offer the best of both words, but doing your own research is always recommended. You may also have had experience with a strain you have loved in the past – check your local pharmacy for pre-rolls of that strain, or maybe a budtender can recommend something similar that you enjoy.
-
Ask Your Budtender: If you are new to cannabis, budtenders are your best friend. They can provide trusted and up-to-date inside information on the best pre-rolls out there based on your needs, preferences and budget. It’s always better to seek advice from someone knowledgeable about the industry rather than spending your hard-earned money on questionable pre-rolls that are sold on the black market because you never really know what’s in them.
-
Use your nose: By giving the top of the pre-roll container a good sniff, you can get a pretty good idea of whether the weed used in it is high-quality. The blend of fresh terpenes (citrus, floral, strong weed smells) and strong aroma is all you need to know you’re getting premium buds in every cone.
However, if your nose is having trouble deciphering the aroma, you may be getting into a dry or old batch of cannabis. Also, if you notice a woody smell that reminds you of tree bark, it could also mean that bits of stem may have been used in the mix.
Enjoy your pre-roll
No hidden or special technique is required to enjoy your pre-rolls. Just light it up just like you would light up a cigarette, making sure the entire cylinder is evenly lit. Afterward, tuck it between your lips and take a few puffs to increase the burn.
It doesn’t need more! If you can’t finish your pre-roll, just wipe it out carefully and save it for later.
Save your pre-roll
If you’re buying multiple pre-rolls or a pack of multiple sticks, you want to make sure they stay fresh for later consumption. Place them in an airtight container and protect them from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. If you have a spare mason jar at home that you can pop them in and then store in a closed one, that’s even better.
Other options are cigar tubes if you have some laying around as they are already built to be airtight. You may also have a zipper, glass Tupperware, or other glass jar – these work fine to keep the air out. Just make sure the pre-rolls are protected from crushing if you intend to travel with them.
