As you prepare to ride proudly in your cannabis-branded vehicles, the time to hide your cannabis fondness is coming to an end. Imagine the envious looks of other cannabis enthusiasts when they catch a glimpse of your cannabis-specific license plates.
This year, organizers are planning a memorable auction event to sell the rights to 22 unique cannabis-themed official state license plates. Some of the catchy phrases used for the license plates are 420, THC, WEED, HASH, CBD and seventeen different cannabis buzzwords.
Planning for this year’s auction is already underway and the event itself will blow guests away. This bidding round for this season’s grass-themed license plates wouldn’t take much time, as many buyers are ready to snag their favorite license plates ASAP.
An annual affair
This isn’t the first year the Colorado government has organized something like this. Last year, the state held an auction for cannabis-themed vanity license plates and raised over $40,000. All funds raised in 2021 were donated to the Colorado Disability Funding Committee to fund new and effective programs for the state’s disabled residents.
Gov. Jared Polis and other Colorado officials are working tirelessly to ensure the state’s cannabis program stays on top. Colorado is one of the top three cannabis producing states in the United States. She has held this top position for more than ten years. Newer legal cannabis states are striving to match the level of success that Colorado’s cannabis program has achieved.
This annual cannabis-themed vanity license plate auction is one of Colorado’s bright, bold, and creative business ideas to bring more cannabis enthusiasts and investors to the state. Colorado has one of the most profitable cannabis reputations in the United States, and these types of innovative programs have helped the state maintain its “emerging” reputation while helping other groups in critical positions in the state.
The auction
The auction of the individualized license plates took place on April 20th. Those responsible have facilitated access to the program by putting it online. The prospective lines were open in the morning and stayed open until 4:20 p.m.
As with all auctions, bidders can put buds on their favorite number plates, and winners can move around with their novelty number plates. Note that the winning bidders only have the right to use the number or letter configuration on the sign. In addition, it is not absolutely necessary to use the rights gained immediately. You can reserve the right to use them at a later date. With permission from the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, you may also be able to sell it for a profit in the future.
Another great thing about this auction is that it’s not just limited to Colorado residents. If you are in other parts of the country, not necessarily neighboring states, you can still open an account and participate in the auction. Successful bidders residing in other states will be mailed their novel cannabis license plates. However, the plate would not come with the security features that accompany a standard plate.
The twenty-two custom license plates have the following cannabis tags: TERPENE, GOTHEMP VISINE, 710, BONGWTR, CBD, BLUNT, MRY JANE, HASH, TOKER, 420, GOT OIL, TRIM, THC, DABBING, RESIN, CANABIS, DABBING, THC, EDIBLE, CO2, NORML and GOT OIL. You can decide which of these novel license plates you want to buy.
The Colorado Disability Funding Committee (CDFC)
As previously mentioned, proceeds from new license plate auctions are donated to this fund to improve the quality of life and independence of Colorado residents living with disabilities. In the official press release, Gov. Jared Polis wrote that the auction is an incredible opportunity to raise grants to fund nonprofit organizations in the state. Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera said the government is excited to be part of this movement to support the state Disability Funding Committee.
Christy Blakely, 2021 grantee and director of Family Voices CO, said Family Voices CO has benefited dramatically from the CDFC grant. The group now serves at least 12 children with hearing and visual impairments. Blakely pointed out that CO provides intervention services for young children suffering from deafness and blindness outside of school hours.
Cannabis use in Colorado?
Colorado has an active medicinal cannabis program and adult cannabis program. Since implementing its cannabis legislation, the state has had no problem generating the necessary revenue from cannabis sales made by licensed cannabis stores or dispensaries across the state. State officials provide reports on how the funds generated were used.
In 2021, recreational cannabis stores in Colorado generated over $2.1 billion in annual sales. This sale set a new record for the industry. Additionally, the state generated a new record tax revenue value of approximately $423 million for the aforementioned sales. Since Colorado’s cannabis program began, at least $400 million in generated cannabis tax revenue has been diverted towards the development and improvement of the state’s public school system. Law enforcement agencies are also funded in part by a percentage of cannabis tax revenue. Disadvantaged communities are also improved with the fund.
last words
Colorado’s auction of cannabis-themed vanity plates does not encourage indiscriminate consumption of cannabis products. At each event, cannabis enthusiasts across the state are advised never to indulge in cannabis before or while driving. The custom license plates do not give the winning bidders immunity from DUI arrests. Cannabis affects a person’s cognitive abilities and the senses needed for safe driving.
DUIs in Colorado cost up to $13,000. Other penalties include loss of license and imprisonment.
