MORE Act Passports – Cannabis News, Lifestyle
The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act passed the US House of Representatives today. This law legalizes cannabis at the federal level in the United States. But it still has to go through the Senate before it becomes law.
The MORE Act also protects people with prior cannabis crimes. You can still participate in the legal cannabis industry.
The law also authorizes $10 million for law enforcement agencies to begin curbside cannabis impairment testing. Funds are also being made available to study the effects of legal cannabis in the workplace. Likewise, there is a change directing the Department of Education to conduct a study on the impact of legalization in schools.
There is currently no accompanying law in the Senate. But expect one sometime in the next month.
The US legal cannabis market will be the largest in the world
“With voter support for legal cannabis at an all-time high and more states moving away from Prohibition, we commend the House for taking this step again to modernize our federal marijuana policy,” said NCIA Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Aaron Smith in a statement. “Now is the time for the Senate to enact some sensible reform legislation so we can finally end the failure of prohibition and promote a well-regulated market for cannabis.”
Recreational cannabis is legal for adults in 18 states plus the District of Columbia, the Territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. 36 states have legalized medicinal cannabis. The MORE Act (once it goes into effect) will legalize cannabis throughout the United States.
