5 states that could allow sports betting in 2022

When Las Vegas welcomed the NHL’s Golden Knights as the first home team in the four major professional sports leagues, it became clear that the acceptance and legalization of sports betting was inevitable. Wherever you consume sports content these days, it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid insights into betting related games.

From daily fantasy sports to betting futures in sports betting, the onslaught of sports betting has left fans across the country wondering when they will be able to bet on their favorite teams. Here are five states that are well-positioned to legalize sports betting in 2022.

Alabama

Crimson Tide, Alabama fans hoping for the chance to bet on their favorite teams at some point have good reason to hope 2022 will be the year sports betting will be legalized. The state has motivation to legalize sports betting because it borders several states that have already legalized it, including Mississippi and Tennessee.

Alabama lawmakers are also aware of the urgency of the matter, considering the number of attempts made to introduce legal sports betting in the state. The final attempt to legalize sports betting wasn’t until 2021. State lawmakers have another chance to agree on a way to legalize sports betting when the regular session convenes again later in January.

California

Californians are currently only allowed to travel to Nevada to legally place bets on ball games. Even though sports betting is still illegal in California at the moment, sports fans in the Golden State have good reasons to remain optimistic that they will soon be able to place bets from the comfort of their own home.

First, an initiative to legalize sports betting in California received more than a million signatures, which means citizens will have the opportunity to vote on the topic Early 2022. Additionally, the major sports betting providers will strive to do whatever they can to get the ball over the line. This will ensure that they can reap the financial benefits of entering the sports betting market in a state with millions of residents and multiple professional and college sports teams.

This is welcome news for Minnesotans eager to participate in sports gambling, as tribes remain the largest barrier to legalized gambling in the state to this day.
