Is This the Best Diet of 2022? Experts think so

Diets come and go, many take the world by storm and then disappear without a fuss. According to the US News & World Report, the Mediterranean diet is an exception to this rule, which remains at the top for the fifth year in a row, taking the top spot for the best diet.

The magazine’s ranking has a list of the top 40 best diets and divides them into categories like the best diets for diabetes and the best diets for weight loss. When it comes to the best diets overall, the top three rankings have been the Mediterranean Diet, DASH Diet, and Flexitarier Diet, all of which give the user a sense of choice and freedom.

“I think it’s important to note that the top three diets – Mediterranean, DASH, and flexitarian – all offer variety, flexibility, and few, if any, rules,” said Gretel Schueller, the Health Managing Editor of the US News & World Report , across from CNN. “All diets that perform well are safe, sensible, and scientifically based. The diet winners also all provide adequate calories with an emphasis on vegetables, fruits, and whole grains; a modest amount of lean protein, dairy products; and an occasional treat. “

The diets were selected based on criteria developed by experts, including their ease of following, their effects on weight, whether the diet helped prevent heart disease or diabetes, their long-term functioning, and more.

Diets that are at the top of the list tend to approach the concept of nutrition in a modern way, focusing on what people are eating rather than depriving themselves. These diets usually recommend healthy, delicious, filling meals that encourage lifestyle change, rather than a diet that you stop after shedding the pounds that you originally wanted to shed.

The Mediterranean diet is based on the types of foods consumed in countries like Greece, Spain, and Italy, all of which are close to the Mediterranean. People who live in these countries usually have better heart health and more stable body weights. These diets consist of consuming large amounts of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, seeds, legumes and more, while consuming cheese, yogurt, poultry and dairy products in smaller amounts. The foods that limit this diet include red meat, added sugars, processed foods, and the like, something that includes many foods, especially for Americans.
