We tried it: Source Cannabis Quest Flower

As a cannabis journalist with a focus on product reviews, I try a lot of weed. Some varieties impress, but few inspire. Cannabis these days focuses too much on the wrong aspects of what flowers do well: insanely high THC percentages and eye-catching flower structures. And those aspects seem to overshadow almost anything else that leads to what I like to call “Franken-Weed” that gets you high on THC, but that’s about it.

I almost never shout about a type of flower from the mountain peaks, post fervent Instagram stories or hand out nuggets to my most snobbish cannabis journalist friends. This has happened a few times in the past few years, and Source Cannabis’ ½ ounce glass Quest was one of those times.

This weed caught my eye because it was really amazing, like the medicinal flower of my childhood before Prop 64. As explosive as its nug look was, the high was even better. It felt full, like a round ball of joy that enveloped everything that came in its way.

When I found out that the brand had been around since 2003, the picture began to sharpen. In an incredibly tough market eating brands for breakfast, it has been considered an accomplishment since 2015. The fact that Source Cannabis has been thriving since 2003 shows that these MFs clearly know what they are doing.

Source’s meticulous process speaks for itself. She grows her flower seeds until harvest and offers a range of unique genetics and seasonal varieties, all indoors, grown in the ground, hand watered, flushed with water for three weeks to ensure the cleanest smoke, and hand raised Base will be trimmed by the structure of the trunk. The company’s holistic, hands-on approach to growing is more than evident in its near-perfect bloom, all of which are Clean Green Certified, which is as close to organic certification as cannabis can get.

It also offers its premium cannabis in 1/2 ounce glasses. This is exciting because half an ounce is a much better amount of weed than an eighth of weed for obvious reasons. The ½ ounce volume is usually reserved for mids or worse, so having so much of this beautiful flower at one time is deeply satisfying.

Let’s talk about my favorite strain of the past few months: Source Cannabis’s Quest. Quest is listed as “sativa-dominant” and is a combination of Chem Sister, Sour Dub and Chocolate Diesel. The strain was created in the garden of Source Cannabis and is unique in its range of products. It tests 31.4% total cannabinoids and 26.4% THC with dominant terpenes Limes, Caryophyllene, pinene and myrcene.

First impression

Shut up my heart – I don’t know if it’s the sheer fullness of a ½ ounce glass or the glowing, sparkling nuggets bursting with terpy madness, but staring into a giant Quest glass is my version of staring into a bright white one Tunnel of Eternal Life.

Aroma

One of the things I love about Quest is that every aspect of the flower is outstanding. Aroma is perhaps the most important consideration in determining flower quality. The scent of Quest is bright, sharp and totally intoxicating. Lemon, pine, earthy and sweet, one touch and you are transported to a pine forest bathed in midday sun on the banks of a long, cold river with a lemon garden on the other side.

Appearance

The flower above all sparkles. It’s crispy and light green with dark orange hair. The bud structure is firmer than a traditional sativa, but it seems so encrusted with crystalline cannabinoids that it couldn’t be looser if it wanted, somewhere between morning dew on an unopened flower and the texture of a diamond rasp.

taste

Another great way to measure flower quality is if the smell of the buds carries over to the taste when you smoke, and whether that taste leaves an aftertaste after you exhale. Quest checks all these boxes with its sweet, lemony, pine-like, herbaceous notes that almost have a eucalyptol effect towards the end.

Inhaling this strain is a delicate, complex and beautiful experience that only nature can create.

effectiveness

As a highly functional cannabis collector who uses weed to work (in addition to everything else), this is the perfect strain for the day. I think it’s especially effective for creatives as it’s a combination high that is stimulating, focusing, and totally relieving at the same time. It creates the perfect space to provide clarity that won’t be blocked by fear and boredom that make you procrastinate.

“Quest” is the perfect name for this strain because it is good for creativity and adventure alike. The high is vibrant and lively, physically stimulating and mentally whimsical. It’s perfect for walking down a path through long grass or swimming in the ocean and happy to be present in the moment.

experience

Full disclosure, I’ve been smoking Quest all day every day for about two weeks so there is almost no situation that I haven’t experienced it at this point. I wake up excited to smoke it, which sounds absurd, but it’s true. Since I’m always high on it, let’s break down my Quest experiences into internal and external ones.

Internal Quest Experience: I love working after consuming Quest because I step into a vortex of focus and creativity where I lose track of everything but the project I’m focusing on. Hours fly by, hundreds of words, I check my to-do list item by item. Suddenly it’s 5:00 p.m. and I’ve done enough to call it a day.

External Quest Experience: I went far into the mountains of the town I come from and took quests out of a bong shaped like a snowman. It was about an hour before noon. The river was still in the shade of the trees and the August air was fresh in the morning. My spine tingled and the whole word oozed with excitement that you rarely get as an adult. I spent the day wandering down the river alone, listening, thinking and being amazed.

Bottom line

Source Cannabis’s Quest is designed to help you explore, be it exploring your own mind or the dark side of a distant mountain. Lemon, pine, earthy and sweet, it’s an energizing and cerebral experience with a body high to help keep you productive in the waking hours.

Quest makes you want to go out and experience life. It brings with it an exciting and fun prerogative that dwarfs feelings like self-doubt that stand in the way of things.
