Which US city smokes the most weed per inhabitant?

Interesting poll from blog Olbg.com about America’s wildest cities. The criteria for a city rank include variables such as nightlife, casinos, marijuana use, alcohol use, adult entertainment venues, and a few other Friday night favorites. While Las Vegas was the clear winner in the overall debauchery competition for cannabis use per population, Portland, Oregon and Indianapolis took 1st and 2nd place for cannabis use per inhabitant.

Some of the interesting tidbits of the survey are that some of the states haven’t allowed recreational cannabis, so there’s no legal way to get your hands on some juicy bud. Other states have medical programs, but some are just beginning, so populations are so high that no pun is intended seems to be a good trend for future legalization in these areas.

The second point that I find interesting is the proximity of cities 1 through 10. Portland leads the field with 64.72% of the population who used marijuana, but Milwaukee, Wisconsin ranks 10th at 63.27%. That’s a whopping 1.45% difference between 1st and 10th place. So, out of 100 people, you’ll see a difference of 1.45% when they admit they smoked weed. With an epoch range of probably 0.50% to 1%, you are left with almost identical numbers for the big 10 cities.

This is important because now you can tell (if you believe the data) that roughly 64% of the urban population where cannabis is legal has used or tried weed. If you’ve reached number 20 on the list, it might just be a 2% difference, or 2 more people in a 100-person survey separating # 1 from # 20. We have a good feeling that in legal marijuana cities, around 61% to 65% of the people are using cannabis or have used it in the mail.

Let’s not split on numbers and let’s just say that a little less than two-thirds of the people who use cannabis are legalized in U.S. cities. It might not be statistically perfect, but you can’t run into trouble calling it a ballpark.
