Proponents petition to legalize cannabis in Missouri

Adult cannabis could be in sight in Missouri as a local coalition filed a petition to legalize it. The group, Fair Access Missouri, is trying to legalize cannabis for adults of legal age and create an “open market”.

The group hopes that legal cannabis will help boost and support the economy and create much-needed jobs in the state. Fair Access Missouri is about to petition the Missouri Secretary of State this week. According to members of the advocacy group, they have “been working for years to create open markets and fair rules” for entrepreneurs, patients and consumers.

“Today’s filings are the next step in this battle,” Fair Access Missouri said in a statement. “We have seen across the country that smart rules and an open market are the way to go when it comes to legalizing cannabis, and we will bring that to Missouri.”

However, recreational cannabis isn’t the only thing they want to legalize. The group also wants to bring back and revise an amendment to the state constitution that “allows state-licensed physicians to recommend marijuana for medical purposes to patients with serious illnesses and ailments.” The petition claims that this is the goal of the legal industry it hopes to create.

If medical cannabis becomes a reality in Missouri, cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, “persistent migraines unresponsive to other treatments,” post-traumatic stress, or “any terminal illness,” and other conditions that remain to be met would be eligible for inclusion Missouri specified.

Missouri changes to make changes

The petition would also add a section to the amendment “to allow the safe and legal use of cannabis for people aged 21 and over”. If the change is officially approved, legal residents could own up to 4,000 milligrams of THC-infused products. You could also have up to 28 grams of concentrate or extract and 8 ounces of bud.

People under 21 could only use cannabis if they were medical patients with a special permit, as in many other constitutional states.

Those eligible for cannabis use can also grow up to 25 square feet of cannabis, as long as they own or lease the area in which they grow. The only limitation is that the area must be secured and kept away from anyone under the age of 21.

As in many other constitutional states, people would not be allowed to sell cannabis privately, and only licensed grow centers and retail stores are allowed to keep the market legal and regulated.

Missouri wants cannabis

Fair Access Missouri isn’t the only group supporting recreational cannabis in the state. Missourians for a New Approach urged residents to sign a similar petition and have tried in the past to gain votes and attention on the subject.

However, in previous attempts, various law enforcement agencies opposed and opposed the legalization of cannabis. It’s not clear if that will be a problem this time around.

Things may be different this time around as the general perception of cannabis in the state appears to be changing. Kansas City, Missouri Major Quinton Lucas announced last February that he intended to pardon previous city convictions for cannabis possession.

However, it is not entirely clear how successful the Fair Access Missouri petition will be as it is still in the initiative process. It can take about 65 days for you to have an answer. It has also not yet been decided whether the coalition will try to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot.

But one thing is clear – Missouri has a reputation for at least decriminalizing or expanding, if not legalizing medical access, so it’s clear that change is on the horizon.
