3 rare side effects of marijuana

The side effects of marijuana are usually quite reluctant. While we’ve all likely experienced a few paranoid highs and the occasional bout of Cottonmouth, these side effects are usually not all that serious. A small group of people have experienced rare cannabis side effects.

Although they are not common at all and will require a lot more research to be fully understood, serious side effects have been recorded. Here are three of them.

For people with a family history of psychotic disorders, cannabis could act as a trigger for a psychotic break. While studies have had no way of confirming or showing whether cannabis was the direct cause of these episodes, cannabis users in European cities selling highly potent marijuana containing more than 10% THC were more likely to have had a first-time psychotic episode.

A subgroup of frequent cannabis users has also experienced cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. This condition is rare and affects recurring cannabis users. Although not so well researched, the condition tends to affect people in their thirties and is characterized by nausea and vomiting.

According to reports from people struggling with this condition, they cannot smoke or use marijuana without vomiting or feeling sick.

EVALI lung disease

Lung disease caused by vaping was widely reported in 2019. The disease, officially called EVALL, resulted in hospital admissions, lung injuries, and even death. After checking the contents of THC and nicotine vape pens, the vitamin E additive was declared harmful to the lungs, causing shortness of breath and chronic coughing.
