Schumer learns that he doesn’t have what it takes to legalize marijuana
Just last year, Senator Chuck Schumer, upbeat about the November 2020 election result, vowed that if the Democrats take majority rule on Capitol Hill and make him the new majority leader, a law legalizing marijuana will be put on the ground and it would pass
Well, some of that happened.
The US Senate is now split 50:50 with Vice President Kamala Harris as the tiebreaker. All that was left was to draft a weed law and Americans would live happily ever after. Well, five months ago Schumer and two other senators came forward to announce that cannabis reform would be a priority in the Upper Chamber. The nation has seen no action since then. Probably the main reason is that Senator Schumer knows that any attempt to pass cannabis reform law now will fail.

But we’ll have to leave it to Schumer: He came out with verve, as if that narrow Senate majority had given him the fighting strength he’d ever need to get a progressive agenda off the ground. It is conceivable that in the back of his mind he would use his newly appointed clout to give America the makeover it needed to spice up a Trump-steeped population.
The marijuana reform was his hot topic for a while. It seemed like every time we logged on to our computers Schumer talked about how he was going to legalize weed, how they had the support, and how they would do it to fix a tattered and torn black America and stop big Corporations. Look at the sky; it’s a bird, it’s an airplane, it’s Super Schumer.

In recent weeks, however, Schumer has learned that not only are the Republicans 100 percent against him, but some Democrats as well. Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell has vowed to cripple the Biden agenda, while several Democratic senators have come forward to express their reluctance to support everything from voting rights to cannabis-related reforms. Some have even spoken out against changing the filibuster rules, which Schumer believes are now being used as an obstacle weapon. But without every democratic member to work together on these issues, all of Schumer’s progressive plans have all but failed.

Schumer’s only hope now is to convince those of his colleagues who remain towards an end of the filibuster that the Republicans will use this maneuver to stop any Democratic legislation and bring the session to a permanent standstill.

Schumer needs Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema to stand behind the elimination of the filibuster. Who knows if it is even possible to get them to switch sides? The real problem is that there are undoubtedly more Democratic senators who also speak out against the filibuster’s assassination, they just haven’t made their intentions known. There could be a number of Democrats waiting to stand against Schumer on this issue.
Schumer has it all. It has proven that it is not made from the same chainsaw grease as its predecessor. Senator Mitch McConnell, and he is more concerned with playing peace and harmony than being a wrecking ball of total domination. However, if Schumer goes dark and takes steps to end the filibuster, a seemingly necessary bullying move if he’s trying to pass controversial laws like federally legal marijuana, any policies that advance the Dems could be temporary.

Without the filibuster, Republicans could simply overturn legal weed by a simple majority once they’re back in power. This, too, puts Schumer in a difficult position. Ideally, the two parties should sit down and discuss a legitimate bipartisan compromise on cannabis reform. It’s not like it’s going anywhere. To date, 17 states have been fully legalized, and the majority of the population supports the taxation and regulation of cannabis like alcohol. The federal government must now take care of it.

Super Schumer found his kryptonite. It did not last long. He didn’t expect the Conservative Democrats to be the political blockades they have become. We expect more resistance to come to the fore the second he introduces his comprehensive cannabis reform law.

But we’re not giving up on Schumer yet.
Each of us has had jobs that take some time to get used to, to get used to it and to gain the respect of our employees. Finding your hold will be the trick. The art of war “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then try to win.”
Schumer’s focus on forcing votes to change the filibuster is a failure. For the good of America, whether it is cannabis reform or whatever, the two parties must come together to prevent the nation from going up in smoke.
