6 ways not to be “that guy” at the cannabis dispensary

It’s a strange time in the world. Nothing feels easy. Everyone is upset. Getting high helps relieve the stress of being alive. That is why weeds were declared essential during the pandemic. And Americans turned to cannabis in record numbers, with national sales increasing 71%. New consumers flocked to pharmacies while established customers increased their weed spend by a third.

Pharmacies are busy with the massive boom in pedestrian traffic, and budget tenders are helping more people than ever. You will also experience noob mistakes and bad buyer behavior. We’ve heard pet pets being annoyed by budtenders across the country, so we’ve put together this handy list of shopping tips for anyone at risk of being “that guy.” You know, the one who messes up the flow for everyone else by being a total fool. Don’t be that guy.

Bring a valid ID

Every cannabis pharmacy will check your ID. Make sure your document is valid and have it ready to show to anyone who asks. And don’t be paranoid. Lisa Black, Budtender, Training and Education Coordinator at INSA Cannabis in Massachusetts, says, “Please don’t bother us because we need to check your ID more than once – we will comply.”

Do a little research

Know before you go. Check the list of pharmacies, browse the menu and choose some options that fascinate you. Your budget tender will be able to guide you from there. Cannabis activist Lo Nunez, a pharmacy manager at Treehouse in Santa Cruz County, California, says, “You know what effect you’re looking for. Don’t just say ‘I want edibles’. We need to know how you want to feel to be able to help you. “

Also, you shouldn’t come up so high that you are completely paralyzed by the menu options.

Don’t be a know-it-all

Nobody likes someone who has seen it all. Even if you feel like this, stay open and listen to your budget tender.

“Please don’t leave us. We’re trying to help people, ”says comedian Tema Sall, a budtender at The Higher Path pharmacy in Los Angeles. “We don’t want to be treated disrespectfully. There is always something new to learn. Be open to hearing new things and learning more. “

Don’t ask your budget tender how to break the law

It seems obvious, but don’t do this. Lo says people often ask them how to take weed on a plane or if it’s okay to send it to yourself.

“If you were to ask me as my friend on the street, my answers might be different, but at work it puts me in an awkward position because if I give advice, the pharmacy could be fined.”

Legal cannabis is a highly regulated industry and pharmacy staff strictly abide by the law. Don’t be an idiot and ask them how to get around this.

Bring cash

And plenty of it. Get it before you arrive at the pharmacy to avoid high ATM fees. Don’t haggle over the price or ask for freebies. Your budget tender is not allowed to do business or give away free weed. Tema recommends checking the list of pharmacies for daily specials before shopping.

“We have 10 percent off edibles on Tuesdays,” she says – and on Fridays, you can get a $ 1 joint with your purchase at The Higher Path.

Respect the shop and the neighborhood

Keep your phone away when in business. Don’t write, call your friend, or take pictures in the store. If you go, don’t shine on the property. Lo says this is a rookie mistake:

“Beginners often don’t know how strictly our business has to be regulated in order for us to work.”

No waste and legal parking. Don’t give the neighbors a reason to complain about the business. Don’t be that guy.
