5 cannabis strains that will be on the menu in January

This month from The Drop, Dante Jordan’s column that rounds up all the strains and dabs from the best brands and breeders that are not to be missed, check out the anticipated releases from Candy Paint Flowers, Flight Path and Ball Family Farms.

Another month, another round of new cannabis strains for you to enjoy. After reviewing a slew of brands at the Hall of Flowers in Palm Springs, I gained not only a much deeper knowledge of the real actors in California cannabis, but a much deeper understanding of what fire people should smoke.

Here are five varieties that appear on pharmacy menus in January.

Candy Paint Flowers: January 996

Candy Paint Flowers was my favorite Hall of Flowers brand. It had a strong homie-from-the-way energy. While most of the other brands were there to put on a huge show, the owners of Candy Paint were posted at their booth, “We have fire and we know it.” The grass really is the truth too. The Bolo The strain sample they gave me looked great and smoked even better – the taste and potency were * Chef’s Kiss * In January, Candy Paint Flowers will be releasing a strain called January 996 in addition to Bolo.

January 996 was bred by Seed Junky Genetics and is a cross of Gelatti and Kush Mints # 11. Candy Paint has been growing the strain for about two years and using ragweed nutrients to achieve its full potential. The brand told me that January 996 smells like a gaseous OG strain with slight menthol and candy-flavored undertones, even though it has no OG in its parentage.

You have a good chance of experiencing a heavy head high and calming effect by January 996, which is a marketing jargon for “That Strain Is To Put You On Your Ass.”

Flight path: jealousy

Flight Path is brand new. Fresh brand, fresh grass, everything fresh. This is exactly what The Drop is all about: educating people about brands and strains that they may not find if they are not deeply rooted in the culture. Flight Path also grows great weed. In January it will release Jealousy and a number of Jealousy hybrids.

Jealousy is another Seed Junky Genetics creation and this is Flight Path’s very first harvest. The strain tastes like sweet cream and candy with a gelato finish in the smoke. These flavors are conveyed to you by lime, myrcene, caryophyllene and linalool terpenes. Expect a strong body high with some cerebral stimulation.

I smoked a sample of Flight Path’s jealousy and immediately said, “YUP. They have one. “Grab a flight route when in California – it could be your next new favorite.

Purple: Wappa

I fell in love with Viola’s concentrates for the first time in Oregon. In fact, it was the huckleberry pie – it was just so damn fruity. Now Viola is launching a whole new line of strains in Beaver State. There’s Tangelo Kush, Tropicana Cookies, and Wappa. Those wappa dabs are good boy.

Wappa was bred by Paradise Seeds. It’s an indica-dominant cross of Chemdog and Royal Kush that packs sweet fruity flavors with floral accents. Paradise Seeds described the aroma and taste of Wappa as a wonderful strawberry and cherry bouquet. Its terpene profile is well balanced with a predominance of myrcene, caryophyllene and linalool.

The most commonly reported effects of Wappa are relaxation, happiness, and euphoria. What this really means is that Wappa is a feel-good strain that probably makes for a perfect daytime smoke.

Viola told me the effect should hit you with an intense, but not overwhelming, body high.

Ball Family Farms: Clubber Lang

Fam. Clubber Lang from Ball Family Farms is a prize, can you hear me? I cracked that bag and damn it needed sunglasses to look at the buds. Those milky white trichomes shone everywhere. Diamonds dance like a song by Drake and Future. And the smoke? Man listen

The Ball Family Farms system of naming proprietary genetics after classic black characters in the cinema is so stupid to me. BFF’s Clubber Lang was named after Mr. T’s character in Rocky III and is an indica-dominant hybrid. It’s a collaboration with the Sixty Four & Hope pharmacy. Clubber Lang has a cookie dough flavor with a lingering sweetness. Honestly, after a couple of hits it reminded me of the sweet bread flavors of birthday cake (the dessert, not the weed variety).

The effects live up to the name. Clubber Lang was known for hard hits, and so is this weed. After a couple of hits I said, “Oh yes, the Ball Fam has a new hitter in their hands.”

For me, the clubber long high started with a strong head high that eventually spread to my body. I thought, “Wow, I didn’t mean to get that high. I love it.”

Huckleberry Hill Farms: Hawthorn Rose

Last but not least is Whitethorn Rose from Huckleberry Hill Farms. It’s not a newly bred strain, but it’s the most unique weed I’ve come across since I found Flavor Crystals by Sub X in Seattle in February 2020.

Whitethorn Rose is a cross between Paradise Punch and Lemon OG. It was bred by John Casali of Huckleberry Hill Farms. With its incredibly diverse terpenes and quick onset of action, Whitethorn Rose is a true example of how incredible sun-grown cannabis can be. You wouldn’t be doing your pallet a favor if you didn’t smoke it.

The vibrant fruity taste of the Whitethorn Rose is what makes it so unique, it literally tastes like chewing a handful of Skittles. Some have defined the flavors as sweet, berry, citrusy, and even spicy with hints of cinnamon and cardamom. The complex flavor profile of Whitethorn Rose is based on its dominance in lime, caryophyllene and linalool. If there’s one strain on this list that you should definitely sprint and get, it is this. It’s so good you might cry.
