5 Cannabis Growers You Can Follow On Instagram to See Hot New Strains

With a new strain of cannabis popping up seemingly every day, it can be difficult to know who the real sweet heat of Holyfield Louisiana is dropping all the time or what the next big hype strain will be. How do you keep up with the best new cannabis strains?

Fortunately, social media is out there and it’s the best way to know who is developing what and, more importantly, when and where these new products will hit the market.

That said, here are some of the best breeders who are developing some of the best cannabis genetics today.

Junky Genetics seeds

Famous varieties: wedding cake, ice cream cake

As for the top names in genetics, there isn’t a single one right now ringing as loudly as California-based Seed Junky Genetics. So many heavy hitters we all smoke right now were created by this boy JBeezy, a famous cannabis geneticist who has been in the game for over 15 years.

Seed Junky created Wedding Cake, Ice Cream Cake, Jealousy, LA Kush Cake, Kush Mints and – I mean, do I really have to keep going? He is also the co-owner of The Minntz in partnership with Cookies.

Right now, Jealousy is seething as a very sought-after and sought-after variety. I knew it would be early 2021 when I first saw him posting pictures of the strain on Instagram.

To know what strains and flavors are coming from him next, as well as potential seed drops, check out JBeezy’s main page and backup page. At the moment, both cannabis strains and flower shots accounts have been all but deleted, likely because Instagram had an absolute rampage trying to close cannabis accounts.

Powerzzzup

Famous Flavors: Cereal Milk, Gary Payton

Powerzzzup Genetics’ Kenny Powers is another longtime Bay Area breeder who has been in the game for a cool minute. He’s a member of the OG Cookie Fam and the mastermind behind Cereal Milk and Gary Payton, two types of cookies that have absolutely exploded in recent years.

Especially this Gary Payton, oooohweee. The first time I smoked this GP was in April 2020 and it immediately put me in a super cerebral high and extremely good mood. I’ll never forget that I looked at that joint like, “Oh wow, is this how cookies come out of here?”

What’s next from Powerzzzzup looks like he’s gearing up for a big drop of a strain / flavor called 2090 Shit. Something futuristic. Follow Powerzzzups Instagram to see when, where, and how to tackle it.

Compound genetics

Famous strains: White Runtz, Apples & Bananas

Founded in California by breeder Christoper Lynch, Compound Genetics is the creator of blasts like Jet Fuel Gelato and Legend Orange Apricot – the root strain of Flavor Crystals, one of the best strains I’ve ever smoked. They also worked with Runtz to breed Apples & Bananas with Cookies and White Runtz.

Although he’s known for absolute warm-ups in the flower game, I really rock with Compound how Lynch stays connected to hip hop culture, which is damn important. Every variety that takes off with rappers is immediately in great demand in stores.

Peep Compounds Instagram and you’ll see him throwing off the likes of 2 Chainz and Young Dolph Packs. Compound also called with cookies to produce Quavos pavé variety.

Exotic genetics

Famous varieties: Cookies and Cream, Grease Monkey

Mike at Exotic Genetix in Tacoma, Washington really does this breed shit. Like, really, really do this. He’s been in the game since the medical days and is known for creating more strains than I can really name: Cookies and Cream put him on the menu, as did Grease Monkey, Rainbow Chip, and Strawberries & Cream.

So every time I see him with a new drop of seed, I eagerly await the time it will take the growers to put them in their gardens, on the shelves, and in my kingsize ultra slim vibes rolling papers (the best, by the way) .

He is currently launching a new line of Red Runtz hybrids with popular strains like Apple Fritter and Biscotti. Check out his Instagram for details on the September rollout.

Seed bank archive

Famous varieties: Face Off OG, Do-Si-Dos

Do-si-dos (David Downs / Leafly)Do-Si-Dos. (David Downs / Leafly)

Archive Seed Bank is a legend when it comes to cannabis strain breeding. They are one of the longest running seed banks with decades under their belt. They’re based in Portland, OR, but Archive genetics can be found all over the West Coast.

They are famous for creating Face Off OG and Do-Si-Dos, as well as Duct Tape, which feels like the latest version of GG # 4. Rainbow Belts from them are already bubbling as one of the next big strains, especially for hash makers. Recently, a friend of Refine, an extractor in Seattle, Washington, told me to keep my eyes open for the next year or so to show up. You can also by following Archive Seed Bank on Instagram.

Also, if you are looking for clones to grow yourself from this genetic juggernaut at home, their website states that Breeders cuts will be available soon. Because they are all sold out. Because the varieties of the Archive Seed Bank are so high quality and in demand.
