4 former WWF and WCW superstars became weed activists
Most professional wrestling fans know that illegal drugs and pain relievers were a huge part of the lifestyle of many of its superstars during the industry’s heyday in the 80s and 90s. Today, looking back on old footage from WWF and WWE Superstars, some viewers probably can’t help but wonder if cannabis helped them deal with the intense grips and pokes they took during the most brutal and famous era to date the industry have suffered.
Since times have changed on how cannabis is viewed, former superstars have been able to speak louder about the benefits and the ways in which it has helped extend their careers.
Here are some former WCW and WWF superstars who advocate marijuana.

Jesse “The Body” Ventura
In the mid to late 1980s, Jesse “The Body” Ventura had a huge impact on wrestling fans both in the ring and as a commentator. He later even made an appearance during the first iteration of The XFL in 2001. During his time outside the ring, he spent much of his time remaining politically active until winning the governorship of Minnesota as a candidate for the Reform Party. His tenure lasted from 1998 to 2003.
Since then, he has been fully committed to the legalization of cannabis nationwide. He began his crusade in the name of the fight for cannabis legalization after watching a friend suffer helplessly from seizures until he traveled to Colorado to buy products that ended once and for all. Since then he has called his latest book “Jesse Ventura’s Marijuana Manifesto”.
Rob Van Dam
Wrestling lovers remember Rod Van Dam as “The Whole Damn Show”. Today RVD is known as one of the most vocal and longest-running cannabis activists in the professional sports world.
It’s no surprise when you consider that the title-winning wrestler won the coveted WWE Heavyweight Championship in 2006. only to lose it later this year for a minor marijuana possession arrest. It turns out the arrest was just a small step in the road for him as well, as he was able to get his career back on track and find his purpose as a marijuana advocate long after his days in the square circle were over. His commitment to advancing cannabis was illustrated by the fact that he has his own brand of CBD products for sale.
Tha Godfather / Papa Shango
Many Attitude-era WWE fans will see the godfather’s catchphrase, “Pimpin ‘Ain’t Easy,” featured prominently on his ring attire, along with his memorable Brawl for All match, which was recently featured in an episode of Vices ” Dark Side of. ” The “Ring” series was highlighted.

What fans don’t know is the long road it took The Godfather (real name Charles Wright) to reach the pinnacle of the wrestling industry. Injury, pain medication, and alcohol threatened everything he worked for until he first tried marijuana at the age of 27. Wright claimed that it made his knees feel better, his back felt better, and generally opened his eyes to the benefits she owns. The impact it had on his career was so strong that he did claims it saved his life.
Val Venis
One of the most eccentric Superstars who helped watch the Attitude-era of WWE television for boys of a certain age, Val Venis, now goes under the nickname from Captain Kannabis. It’s a somewhat apt name for a wrestling heel, and since he now owns and operates the Health 4 Life pharmacies in Arizona, it makes perfect sense that he would give up his old WWE name for this one.

It’s not shocking that Venis made the leap into the world of cannabis, as he attributes to cannabis to help him overcome his pain relieving habit. His Health 4 Life pharmacy franchise is a force to be reckoned with in the Arizona market as it currently has four that are open for trade.
