3 Director of Cannabis Products, Jake Wilson, can’t live without it

Jake Wilson, director of the feature film Are you Joking?, as well as countless music videos including work for the Jonas Brothers, Lizzo and Betty Who, is known for his creativity and fresh ideas. But having an impressive rap sheet is just the beginning of his impact in the entertainment industry and beyond.

Wilson, who lives in both New York and Los Angeles, is a staunch supporter of cannabis legalization and even considers it a tool in his creative repertoire. “I’m a big stoner,” Wilson told Weedmaps. “I smoke weed more days than I don’t. I started out in college and I definitely prefer getting high to getting drunk. Unlike some, I’m a high-functioning stoner, and writing a script or working on a project helps me focus or get creative.”

And as an advocate for the LGBTQ community – he came out after graduating from college – Wilson has partnered with cannabis seltzer brand Cann to promote acceptance by both weed and LGBTQ people, particularly with Pride alike around the corner. “For me, Pride is about being thankful,” Wilson said. “On the whole, I’m so damn lucky. So happy that I can wear what I want, fuck who I want, marry who I want, party how I want…all without fear. Those who came before me cannot always say the same thing. So much has changed even in my short life – so we have to be freaking loud and live our lives to the fullest because we can and life is freaking short not to.”

As a proponent of acceptance, Wilson is not only committed to the now, but to the future. He sees the importance of LGBTQ visibility for our country’s youth and says: “Visibility is so important because children and young people need to grow up with adults out there in the world just like them to give them hope for their future . To see how fabulous and happy they can be. It’s something I wish I had growing up. And something we need more than ever given the despicable and disgusting laws that our state and local governments are trying to reluctantly enforce on trans children and families.”
