Works of Fire: The Best Weed Strains of July 4th 2022

Fact: Americans enjoy more weed freedom and variety than any people in the history of the earth. Our global competitors? Crazy about the pot.

A $25 billion legal industry, ganja is the country’s fifth-largest revenue stream, with 19 legalizing states and more on the way. The Californian market alone offers an unbelievable 39,000 product types. This July, the newly legal New Yorkers will put smoke in the air. Floridians can meet a medical pharmacy. Legalization is doing better than any party or politician because freedom is being destroyed.

Put away the M-80s and get some zaza — here are 9 scorching weed strains from Independence Day 2022.

red velvet

We have to start with the colors. When I think of a hot summer 2022 “red” strain that is actually out on the market, I think of Red Velvet. Lemon-cherry gelato with Pina Acai is quite the trend, and Grandiflora, Oakland’s top growers, claim so. Our Sunset Connect brand bag had a glowing cinnamon smell. In addition to Red Dragon and Red Congo, there is plenty of room for other red varieties.

White Runtz

Gosh, UMMA Sonoma has the world’s best version of White Runtz, one of July’s most hyped strains. Just look at it – it’s literally white with trichomes. As if Runtz wasn’t blingy enough, White Runtz gets even icier than Runtz, which is Zkittlez x Gelato. That means tropical berry syrup-over-ice-cake smells – and yes, weed can do that. Umma grows for the best breeders and brands in the world, including Compound Genetics.

blue power

Invoke one of Las Vegas’ most impactful creations, Blue Power, powering today’s top flavors like Apple and Banana from Cookies and Compound Genetics. Blue Power (Power x White Moonshine) by Sin City Seeds has at least 43 direct descendants and has produced nine generations of strains: SinMint Cookies, Animal Mints, Kush Mints, Animal Face, Mint Chocolate Chip and so on. Give the Sin City name some respect.

GMO root beer

We discovered real root beer smelling weed in the wild on July 4th – the mythical GMO root beer strain. It’s as if GMO gave some root beer throwers all its volume. Crazy high in THC and of course it will knock you out. GMO x Rootbeer is reportedly a project by Mendocino-based breeders Skunktek and Mean Gene (aka Freeborn Selections). It’s been hard fought, but seems poised for a national debut. Root beer is still hella American on the 4th.

time to sweat. Chicago-based Revolution in the Midwest is serving up Miami Punch this July 4th – a crowd-favorite blend of Florida Orange x Purple Punch. Tropical cream cake flavor precedes energizing sativa hybrid effects. Terp heads will notice that terpinolene, ocimene, and limonene lead the pack.

splash

Weed that smells like root beer, creamsicles, cake, candy, or permanent marker? All in style for Independence Day 2022. Top Cannarado Spritzer. (David Downs/Leafly)Cannarado’s splash gives us life. (David Downs/Leafly)

Staying hydrated throughout the 4th of July long weekend is really important and that includes regular squirt hits. Colorado breeder Cannarado combines Runtz, Grape Pie, and MAC—just about everything that’s currently great. Peel off layers of candied gas, sugary granola and bubblegum funk; the olfactory kaleidoscope never stops spinning. This is what gets even the most jaded of industry folks excited to smoke.

Jack Herer

Illinois, the land of Lincoln, crosses into summer number three of legalization with a classic: Rythm’s award-winning sativa staple, Jack Herer. The 4th of July and the struggle for independence live on in every toke of this sweet, energetic strain. Activist Jack Herer envisioned a radical marijuana freedom that would flourish across the country. Dare to dream just as big.

Landslide #4

Freddy’s Fuego, Washington fireflower grower, democratized exotic marijuana selection with The Hunt, a collection of fresh flavors for smokers to buy and vote on this July. We’re shamelessly lobbying for Landslide #4, a clever cross of Lava Cake x Fleetwood MAC bred by Lit Farms. We voted it top of the group during a field trip in June. It has bright, intense Cake and MAC roots that just sweep you away; probably from the lineage Melonade. Put on some Stevie Nicks and Vibe.

permanent marker

The writing is on the wall – Los Angeles-based indie brand Doja Exclusive launched Permanent Markers on both coasts in June. Bred and grown by JBeezy of Seed Junky Genetics and selected by Doja Pak, the strain fuses several established strains: Biscotti x Jealousy x Sherb Bx. Flower, soap, candy and gassy radio smells fully translate into taste. It has a lingering pungent taste of a soapy funk with hints of candy and floral guest tones. The potent strain inspires creativity for daytime relaxation, followed by binge eating and the urge to roll some more.

OK, we have a 4×4 to pack camping gear with, so let’s stop at these nine. But rest assured, the land is blooming with fragrant, fresh, freedom-blessed trees. So light up and take a breath – because America has a lot more work to do.
