The Kush / Cookies Drift: strains similar to Dosidos

Not everyone can buy Dosidos of the Leaf Variety of the Year 2021. But almost anyone can enjoy the strain’s legendary grandparents, or hit offspring, or related strains with similar flavors and indica hybrid highs. Get ready to shop for these 13 similar strains below.

Meet two families: OG Kush and GSC

Fuel on fuel – when the Cookies and Kush families get together, their offerings soak the scene in pungent, gaseous fumes.

These two ancestral families are not known to hold back. This telltale sweet, musky chemical element found in both predicts high levels of THC. But with so many different offers from every family, it takes a lot to stand out from the seed packets, an achievement that Dosidos has succeeded in doing.

The leaf variety of the year 2021 is Dosidos!

Dosidos is a collaboration between Oregon and California Bay Area breeders and has secured its rightful place in the Kush / Cookies canon.

Experienced breeder Kevin Jodrey explains that OG Kush grows in a more vinous manner. In contrast, Cookies (also known as GSC) grows stocky and bushy, making combinations of the two ideal for growers looking for plants that don’t need as much structural support as OGs. The combination combines the hot, spicy fullness of an OG Kush with the sweet, creamy cookie dough elements of cookies.

Cookies hybrids, says Jodrey, are the Hindu Kush of modern times and the chassis many strains build on because they deliver the visual appeal of hard, chunky buds alongside a calming stone.

“Dosi was an incredible basis for so much modern work today,” says Jodrey. “I think the era of Dosi as a popular strain is in decline. But its impact was undoubtedly powerful because it really allowed a lot of people to access a good OG stock and a good Cookies stock in a replicable manner. “

Dosidos has both purple and green expressions, each laced with orange hair and covered in frosty trichomes. The best phenotypes take the sweet, grape-like purp cookie taste and pour kerosene over it. This calming burden is pressing the gas, exactly what we needed to round off another challenging year.

Dosidos’ direct parents

Dosidos’ direct parents are quite rare to see on store shelves. But their genes make up a lot of great pots, so they’re worth highlighting.

The Leafly 2021 variety of the year came from the solid seed stock of Face Off OG and stabilized the esteemed Cookies-Cut OGKB, which tended to have low yields with hermaphroditic tendencies, to a variety with a more moderate yield.

In the concept, [Face Off OG] sounds terribly violent and painful, but like the movie, it can be quite entertaining under the right circumstances.

Face Off OG father

Keyword white pigeons flying in slow motion: the 90s are back in fashion, and here we are talking about Face Off OG. This OG Kush phenotype has long been a staple of the Archive Seed Bank. Archive’s breeder, Fletcher Watson, AKA ThaDocta, explains that particularly excellent batches of OG Kush appeared in the Southern California underground market in the late 1990s. ThaDocta collected half a dozen seeds and selected the plant that left smokers with a “skull-destroying high”.

Like John Woo’s 1997 action thriller Face / Off starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, the idea was that this strain could take your face away. This sounds terribly violent and painful in concept, but like the movie, it can be quite entertaining under the right circumstances.

This strain dominates the most common terpene, myrcene, which has earthy, tangy flavors and is the only way cannabis researchers can use the very scientific term “couch lock”.

OGKB mom

OG Kush Breath or OGKB is another strong OG Kush hybrid. This strain is a phenotype of a GSC (OG Kush x Durban Poison) cut and was popularized by the breeder NorCal ICMag of NorCal Genetik. NorCal explains that he took a clone of the strain from his friend OG Kush Breath and named it after his friend. NorCal also had cuts to other cookie phenotypes, Forum and Animal, at the time, and describes OGKB as “mutated cookies”. He famously saved the variety after OGKB asked him to vacate his place after a home invasion.

NorCal says OGKB was initially not as desirable to grow because it took more time in vegetation to develop a healthy canopy, and the seeds it produced were difficult to germinate. He met ThaDocta on online cannabis forums and the rest is history.

“[OGKB] produces damn fire; the offspring are very promising, ”says NorCal. “It was basically a tricky investment to get dialed in and so on … Much of what comes from the OGKB is usually pretty impressive.”

OGKB is most dominant in Terpinolen, a terpene that is woody and floral. It is said that NorCal is working on further crosses of OGKB offspring with Compound Genetics.

Peanut Butter Breath (Dosidos x Mendo Breath)

This strain from ThugPug Genetics is just one of many cannabis breeders that these two parents used. It’s popular for a reason: like peanut butter, this one has a nutty, hearty sweetness.

Laboratory tests show that samples submitted as “Dosidos” usually have a specific aroma fingerprint. Dosi-terpenes are usually dominant limonene, with caryophyllene and then linalool as support. Peanut Butter Breath rocks the exact same terpene profile. They are Terpen twins! See also two more top terp twins: Kush mints and White Runtz.

Slurricane or Dosi Punch (Dosidos x Purple Punch)

Cross the Dosi with a Purple Punch and now you have a potent type of fuel that comes with an added guarantee of expressing that coveted shade of purple. This strain from In-House Genetics tastes very similar to the cocktail at Pat O’Brien’s: punchy and sweet, but strong enough to have your face cut off on Bourbon Street.

Dosi Punch, an interpretation of the same cross that Slurricane is made of, is from Symbiotic Genetics, who propagated the popular cute and sleepy Purple Punch strain. Of course, it tastes fantastic when you combine terpenes like caryophyllene (pepper) with lime (citrus) and pinene (pine).

Dolato (Dosidos x Gelato 41)

Dolato is a combination of some of the most popular strains in the Cookies arsenal, Dosidos and Gelato 41. Award-winning breeder Alan of CRAFT Cannabis has made some room for Seed Junky’s Dolato this year, along with an impressive handful of hybrids that mix different strains with those of CRAFT combine black cherry funk.

Dosidos, says Alan, is a “pretty magical combination” of OG Kush and Cookies that is great for growers because of the way it is grown and its high oil production. Dolato takes that and pairs it with one of the most popular new strains of the modern age.

Dosidos related and friendly

Mendo Breath (OGKB x Mendo Montage)

This comes from the Gage Green Group and is an OGKB pollinated by Mendo Montage. It has gasoline, of course. Think of this element as bitter black coffee as it is strong but goes well with the other flavors of this variety – like vanilla and caramel.

Sundae Driver (Fruity Pebbles OG x Grape Pie)

Cannarado Genetics developed the Sundae Driver and Jungle Boys is breeding the best version I have ever smoked. This one is far more fruity than others on this list and tastes like sweet grape candy with just a little subtle bitterness to give it a backbone. It’s not directly related to Dosidos, but it has the same terpene profile: fruity gas.

The family chosen by Dosidos includes strains that share their two dominant terpenes – limonene and caryophyllene – but differ in the third. Swap myrcene for linalool in terpene slot number three and you have these beloved heavyweights:

With related strains like these, you can see why Dosi ascended the throne to become cannabis king in 2021. Long live the Leafly variety of the year 2021!
