Poland needs a plug – Poland will import weed from Germany, Uganda and Israeli companies

To enter the Polish market, German medical cannabis company Cantourage is partnering with the Cannabis House project in Poland. They intend to import medical marijuana from Uganda to the Polish market with the support of Israeli cannabis company Together Pharma.

The Glueberry OG strain will be available in some pharmacies across the country from the first week of December. Poland will be the third market to offer the product, after the UK and Germany. According to the supply agreement, over the next three years, more than 500 kg of dried cannabis sativa will be shipped to Poland.

According to Cantourage CEO Philip Schetter, they want to help increase the availability of high-quality goods and gradually expand the range on the Polish market. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Berlin, the company has been traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since November 11, 2022 and intends to expand its presence in the European market. They are excited to partner with Cannabis House and Together Pharma to improve Polish patient access to medical cannabis products. CANNABIS IN POLAND

Poland is responsible for 8% of the wealth of European nations, or less than 1% globally. Even with that ratio, it ranks 10th in the global cannabis market in 2021. Adult use is illegal in Poland, medical marijuana is only allowed on prescription, but CBD is widely available.

Adult cannabis, sometimes referred to as recreational cannabis, is officially banned in Poland. The Drug Addiction Control Act defines as criminal offenses the possession, use and trafficking of cannabis with a THC content greater than 0.2% outside of the medical system. The penalty for selling cannabis products containing THC, in addition to any act of distribution or trading, ranges from 5 to 12 years in prison, depending on the amount and the offender’s intent for profit. It is doubtful whether the decriminalization of cannabis use by adults will spread further.

The Polish government pays attention to even the smallest deviations in the permitted THC percentage, which has led to import restrictions, fines for companies and delivery delays.

Polish CBD products are marketed as being able to address certain lifestyle issues like pain relief and sleep improvement, which tends to attract customers who are concerned about their health. It’s important to note that legal restrictions prevent CBD products from explicitly claiming therapeutic benefits, limiting their marketability. Other factors include increasing consumer knowledge of CBD and a growing range of goods, players, and vendors.

In August 2020, Polish VAT on medical cannabis dropped from 23% to 8%, making price points in the market more attractive. Distribution, availability, and variety of medicinal cannabis have all improved, but in 2021 it still only accounted for 4% of market value.

Some of the strictest pharmaceutical regulations in Europe can be found in Poland. But healthy people are lining up for prescriptions because of the lenient regulations surrounding medical marijuana.
