Now you can find award-winning West Coast strains in Massachusetts

Chasing Runtz in Beantown? Look no further. Ayr Wellness, a leading vertically integrated multi-state cannabis operator, has announced its new partnership with floral brand Lost in Translation (LIT for short) to bring the best West Coast genetics to the Massachusetts market via legacy seed breeders and phenohunters, Tahoe hydroponics. Acquired by Ayr Wellness in June 2021, the six-time Jack Herer Cup winners boast famous strains like Sundae Driver and Gelato 45, with Tahoe Hydro co-founder and CEO Ray Schiavone at the helm.

According to Schiavone, indoor operations “have grown [with] the highest level of…hydroponic equipment, Athena nutrients and the latest and greatest lighting.” Alongside new, unreleased strains like Red Velvet Runtz, Miami Vice and Watermelon Sugar alongside proven flagships like WAP – a Cheetah Piss cross, he continues: “Our model has always been to innovate with unique terpene profiles and meet specific consumer needs and trends in our menus.”

Ayr: The price is right

Eighths and quarters of mid-priced flowers are currently available in select varieties at their two newly opened larger Boston Ayr Wellness Dispensary locations in Watertown (for adult use and medicinal use) and Back Bay (for adult use only) as well available wholesale. When asked about the lower-than-normal price tag for typical indoor products, Schiavone says, “Massachusetts consumers will now have access to these new quality options at a better price point than the competition.”

Multi-State Operators (MSOs) are historically good at providing decent, if not high quality, products at reasonable prices – the typical result of master planning and proper financial backing. A certain level of care for the facility, the environment and the people who care for the facility usually takes a back seat, but as Founder, Chairman and CEO of Ayr, Jonathan Sandelman says, “LIT flower is a testament to our commitment We take the best ingredients – facilities, people, genetics – and cultivate excellent cannabis at scale throughout our organization.”

When asked why it is so important for him to work with an MSO like Ayr, Schiavone explains: “I respect and appreciate Ayr’s commitment to quality and his willingness to integrate our management and methods into their platform.”

flower for the people

Ayr and LIT’s commitment to their customers and team is evident when speaking to Schiavone, who says their strain selection is based on consumer demand and feedback. He also mentions how excited he is to work with Massachusetts residents and enthuses: “I’ve personally spent a lot of time not only meeting the retail team at Ayr, but also many other operators such as Nova Farms, Caroline’s and North to visit East Alternatives. Everywhere we have [gone] We were given a warm welcome and everyone is looking forward to getting to know a West Coast floral brand. Not only does everyone love great flowers, it’s also humbling to see how many people enjoy wearing our hats and clothes who haven’t even tried our flower. It’s really amazing to see.”

He continues: “I think every brand has to be dealt with [it] … like your own child. I take great pride in ensuring that everything from the clothing to the flowers to the derivatives is of the highest quality with the intention of having an enduring relationship with everyone it comes in contact with.”

The future looks bright for the family of brands as they embark on expansion plans that include a passion project for Schiavone’s pheno hunting. Besides decades of cultivation experience and a smile, what does he hope to bring to Massachusetts? The Master Breeder says the East Coast needs some good causes. “I think something the Massachusetts market needs is a high-quality purple flower with lemon terpenes, which I’ve been researching and developing for years, so I look forward to bringing it to market at some point.”
