Last week, New Jersey kicked off the long-awaited sale of recreational cannabis. On the first day of sale, April 21, over 12,000 customers spent nearly $2 million on cannabis, according to NJ’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC).

Some worried about the availability of cannabis for both the recreational and medicinal markets, but there was work to be done. MMJ supply remained strong, with 64,000 ounces of product sold to patients and their caregivers over the past month.

On April 20, the day before the start of the recreational market, dispensaries sold twice the daily average number of cannabis products sold in the previous month.

“The data demonstrates that the market serves both consumers and patients used by adults effectively,” CRC executive director Jeff Brown said in a statement. “We continue to monitor inventory and patient access and stand ready to take enforcement action against any ATC that does not meet patient access and care requirements.”
