Glass House Farms x Field Extracts live resin pre-rolls

Glass House Farms, an indoor farm on the California coast, has partnered with LA’s award-winning extractor, Field Extracts, to create its 5-pack of fortified half-gram pre-rolls. Both brands have solid reputations for making impressive buds and concentrates, respectively. Hence the expectation for these pre-rolls was high AF.

So I arranged activities that felt appropriate for auditioning the Citrus Apricot variety, an indica-dominant strain from Glass House Farms and Field Extracts collaboration that hit an astronomical 35% THC level. Here are my results.

First impressions

These joints came in a graphite gray tin box with the Glass House Farms landscape logo etched glossy on the front. The lid slides off when the sides of the box are squeezed, revealing five half a gram of joints in a neat plastic bag. The pre-rolls had the familiar, greasy appearance of an oil-soaked joint, but they didn’t feel slippery or sticky between my fingers.

The legally required language and brand contact information is located on the back of the box. Cannabis marketing texts in microscopic script make my eyeballs itch and are rarely necessary, which seems like a concept Glass House Farms seems to appreciate too.

The initial scent of the joint was only slightly skunky to my nose, which was remarkable considering how saturated the joints appeared to be. The pre-rolls were uniform in density, saturation, length and girth and – as we would learn from two rounds of absolute zooming – responsive enough to do more than just zoom out.

Round one

My first session with a pre-roll infused with Glass House Farms x Field Extracts was scheduled for an evening at home watching Netflix while I filled a page or two in my sketchbook. What actually happened, however, was that after a harrowing day of extreme parenting, professional working methods, isolated moments of stressed housekeeping, and general, sleepless emotional exhaustion, I sucked this joint with what felt like three firm gulps.

The beginning whipped me through a vortex, pushing just enough tearful sleep tears from my face that I felt some degree of emotional relief. My eyes wet, I traveled to Chillsville, navigated to Netflix, and just vibrated until I was all caught by The Great British Bake Off.

The high was the right response to my day; That said, instead of gently buffing my rougher edges or gently easing myself out of my fears, this joint just sandblasted me back into spiritual alignment. Of course, I had a strange cry of joy once the beginning brought my crusty mindset back, and of course I decided to merge into dissociation instead of processing my day further through sketchbooking.

The effect this joint delivered might not be what I expected, but it was damned if it wasn’t exactly the high I needed.

Round two

My second session with a pre-roll of Glass House Farms x Field Extracts preceded an epic haircut that lasted over a decade. Anticipating an unfortunate incident before a shower in which my shirt got so tangled in my foot-length ponytail bun that I shaved almost my entire head, I immediately made an appointment with my hairdresser.

For my particular type of femininity, haircuts – even overdue ones – can be a huge source of fear, so I played my salon appointment upfront with an infused pre-roll. During this round the perfume was much stronger than before. It penetrated my clothes, my jacket, and my thick pile of overgrown curls. Fortunately, my hairdresser is out of cannabis, so I walked into the store without the fear of appearing “too high”. Which is good because I absolutely stank of weed the entire visit, and I was fucking high after everything it was called.

Once again the buzz fainted with whiplash. I felt my eyes swim in their sockets as my stylist patiently described each step of the process ahead. Her explanations ricocheted off my forehead, only the bare minimum of information penetrating the depth of the high. However, I didn’t feel frustration, just pure pleasure.

I was able to share pictures and articulate ideas with my stylist, joke back and forth with her and basically enjoy being cared for in that uniquely intimate way by someone who was little more than an acquaintance. Even though I was back on astrological journeys, the pre-joint mood dictated the course of the high, so I was in low key golden retriever mode throughout the process, grinning my teeth under my mask for most of the time.

Two hours after puffing the citrus apricot-infused joint, I jumped out of the salon with the nibbles and an adorable shaggy new pixie-fro. Then I spooled myself straight down the street to the bakery and made two whole pieces of pastry as if they were bite-sized (they weren’t).

Bottom line

The onset of these infused pre-rolls is strong, but once the high crash lands it unfolds to serve the consumer’s needs – at least that’s my experience. I would suggest some level of comfort with high THC products before trying these; even as a seasoned stoner, I felt that these joints had the potential to produce intense highs.

For college stoners, however, this particular strain was suitable for both daytime and evening use, with effects largely based on whatever you’re going through, be it apocalyptic parenting or just a long overdue haircut.
