Free weed for blood donations in Michigan, where shortages are critical

By Nina Zdinjak

The Pot For Plasma campaign is an initiative by Walled Lake-based Greenhouse and Burton-based UBaked Cannabis Edibles to address Michigan’s critical blood and plasma donation shortage.

Beginning Tuesday, January 18, the two cannabis companies will be making free pre-rolls available to anyone over the age of 21 who comes to us with proof of having donated blood or plasma. Anything is possible – a sticker, a patch on the arm can be used as proof and no purchase is required.

The two companies stressed that Michigan is currently experiencing its worst blood and plasma shortages in more than 10 years, a situation shared by the rest of the United States. American Red Cross and Michigan Association of Blood Banks appeal for help; they urgently need blood and plasma donations.

Just a year ago, Greenhouse of Walled Lake launched its “Pot for Shots” promotion, in which the company gave away more than 30,000 pre-rolls to anyone who could show proof of Covid vaccination.

“Our state and country remains in crisis and we are asking people to donate their blood or plasma where appropriate,” said Jerry Millen, founder and owner of Greenhouse of Walled Lake. “Your generous donations can enable someone to have surgery or even save their life.

“Pot For Plasma is our way of rewarding our customers, old and new, for giving back to the community,” he added. “In fact, I will also donate my blood and plasma.”
