Does CBD cure Covid? – Cannabis News, Lifestyle

Does CBD cure Covid? The Food and Drug Administration doesn’t think so. Last week, the US government agency issued warning letters to companies that manufacture CBD. The FDA claims the companies have made COVID-related claims about their products. This is the largest federal action against the cannabis industry in over a year.

The companies that received the alerts were: Cureganics, Heaven’s Organics LLC, Functional Remedies, LLC D/B/A, Synchronicity Hemp Oil, Greenway Herbal Products LLC, CBD Social, UPSY LLC, and Nature’s Highway.

US authorities said in a statement they have seen companies claiming CBD remedies are Covid-19. As they claim, these companies are “using research studies to misleadingly claim or imply that their CBD products will cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent COVID-19.” Companies have 48 hours to clean up their websites and social media posts with product descriptions that “misleadingly present them as safe and/or effective for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19.”

The warning letters date from the same day that the FDA lobbied Congress to amend a 1994 law regulating dietary supplements. The FDA is seeking more control over the dietary supplement industry. They say that increased scrutiny will allow the bureaucracy “to know when new products are launched, to quickly identify dangerous or illegal products on the market and, if necessary, to take appropriate measures to protect consumers”.

Despite this, several scientific studies show that CBD essentially cures Covid. Or at least it is effective in preventing or treating COVID-19 infection.

Does CBD cure Covid – what the science says

In March 2021, the National Institutes of Health published a study showing this. From their abstract: “CBD and its metabolite 7-OH-CBD… potently block SARS-CoV-2 replication in lung epithelial cells. CBD acts after cellular infection, inhibiting viral gene expression and reversing many effects of SARS-CoV-2 on host gene transcription.”

In other words, “cannabidiol from the cannabis plant has the potential to prevent and inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection.”

Just two months ago, researchers at the University of Chicago published their findings in Science Advances. They found that patients taking FDA-approved CBD for their epilepsy had a lower rate of positive COVID tests compared to a nationwide sample.

A third study by the American Chemical Society and the American Society of Pharmacognosy found that CBDa and CBGa bind to the spike proteins of SARSCOV-2. These cannabinoids stopped the virus from entering cells and causing infection.

Companies that fail to comply with FDA requirements could face product seizures and even criminal charges.

CBD is a threat to Big Pharma

Is this another case of a mindless bureaucracy that cares more about legal compliance than common sense? Or is there more at play here? Eventually, if CBD cures Covid, it will hit both the FDA and Big Pharma where it hurts.

It will break the glass on the revolving door of corporate agents and federal bureaucrats.

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb sits on Pfizer’s board of directors. He is also a frequent “expert” guest on Pfizer-sponsored CNBC. He owns thousands of Pfizer shares. Gottlieb sits on the board of directors of Illumnia and Tempus Labs, all of which sell FDA-approved COVID-19 testing kits. He also sits on the board of Aetion, which has worked with the FDA on COVID-19 policy.

Stephen Hahn led the FDA when it approved Moderna’s COVID vaccine. He recently assumed an executive position at Flagship Pioneering, the company behind Moderna. Flagship owns 20 million shares of Moderna worth $6.5 billion. Earlier this year, the company sold a portion of its Moderna stock, putting $1.4 billion in the bank.

There is no difference between Flagship and Moderna. Flagship’s current CEO co-founded Moderna and owns over 2 million shares. Moderna’s CEO is listed as a “special partner” of Flagship.

Mark McClellan was an FDA commissioner in the 2000s. He sits on the Board of Directors of Johnson & Johnson.

As George Carlin once said, “It’s a big club and you’re not in it.”

CBD cures COVID? This is a thought crime

So that begs the question – is there a reason “CBD cures Covid” isn’t making the headlines? Because if we want to “trust science,” we must be willing to follow it. Even if it means no intellectual property and no profiteering.

Unless “trust the science” or “listen to the experts” is synonymous with “trust the establishment” and “obey”.

Because, as George Orwell once wrote,

“Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the field of thought? In the end we will make thought crime literally impossible because there will be no words to express it. Every concept that can ever be used is expressed by exactly one word, the meaning of which is firmly defined and all its subsidiary meanings are erased and forgotten.

The process will continue long after you and I are dead. Fewer words every year, and the range of consciousness ever narrower. Even now, of course, there is no reason or excuse for committing thought crimes. It’s just a matter of self-discipline, mastery of reality. But in the end even that won’t be necessary. . . . Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050 at the latest, there won’t be a single person alive who could understand a conversation like the one we’re having now?”

George Orwell, 1984
