Crowned Champion of the Exotic Pot of LA at the Zalympix Awards on June 11th

The best cannabis in the world’s largest and most influential legal market, Los Angeles, flowers Sat June 11th at the Zalympix Championships Awards Show.

LA’s top dispensary, Greenwolf, is throwing an awards party downtown tomorrow night where LA’s best-looking, best-smelling, best-tasting, gasiest, most potent, and overall best designer cannabis receive top honors. The competition turned out to be fierce.

Greenwolf’s store on Los Feliz Blvd in LA has nurtured the exotic floral scene since the days of medical marijuana. After two previous competitions, they blew the Horn of Gondor and summoned the top brands for a Battle Royale. The flower, which was included in the $600 judges’ kit, represents the best snapshot of what’s burning in Weed in 1922. It’s by far the best box of weed we’ve ever had to smoke, and our waistline and tolerance paid a heavy price to get on our winners list.

We have our idea of who might be taking home trophies tomorrow night, but looking at the entire box can help anyone understand the Zaza landscape this year.

Modern weed’s focus converges on relaxing, THC-rich and indica-dominant hybrids, particularly recent crosses from the GSC lineage (Gelato, Sunset Sherbert, “Cookies” genetics). Ten strains in the box competed to become King Kong of Cookie Mountain:

Adam Bergman, co-owner of Greenwolf, told Leafly during the first Zalympix, “The connoisseurs, they really want that Zaza, they want the new-new, and most of the new-new seems to be something that comes from Gelato or Zkittlez or Sherbert . ”

Cereal A La Mode has four times the terpenes (2.1%) the national average (< 0.5%). (David Downs/Leafly)Cereal A La Mode contains more than four times as many terpenes (2.1%) as the national average. (David Downs/Leafly)

The prettiest, newest and strongest for us? Cereal A La Mode #50 by Fiore with Serge Cannabis and Powerzzup. She’s like fortified Cereal Milk – crazy pretty with trichomes and a thick Cereal Milk flavor of creamy, sugary carbs that lingers in the smoke. The high just breaks any tolerance you’ve built up. Prepare to be encrypted.

Cereal A La Mode combines cereal milk with Georgia Pie. Y Life (Cookies x Cherry Pie) mixes muesli milk itself into Snowman. Georgia Pie is the Gelatti x Kush Mints by Seed Junky Genetics. Remixing these genes makes the weed that defines it exotic.

I could see the Sherblato winning here just for its perfect conversion from a Sherbert to a Gelato. But these terps have become popular, while Cereal A La Mode has taken it to a whole different level.

Aside from the intense Cookies fight, we’re even more excited for the second focus of the Zalympix 22 – what’s going on with the Zkittlez genes in 2022. There, Deep East + Wizard Trees’ Zoap took on Zushi + The Ten Co’s Blue Zushi and Karma’s Zowahh from Cali Kush Farms. I want permanent ounces of all three.

It might be time for Zoap to claim his trophy – this batch looked, smelled, tasted and felt like the perfect smoke. The Oakland team created their own line by hunting and crossing OZ Kush (Zkittlez x OG Eddy Lepp) and have something truly original – rich, syrupy, tropical, creamy fruit for days. Blue Zushi jumped out of the pocket even more, but looked a little less perfect in this game. Smoke and flavor stay true to the Blue Zushi that won the last Zalympix – simply stunning blue raspberry Z-roots that will get you super lit.

And I have a special place in my heart for Zowahh by Karma Genetics – a Zkittlez for Sour D Bx by Karma Genetics. It’s the only Sour-D cross in the pits, and to see Zkittlez crank up the volume and syrup on the Diesel is just great.

What is the Zalympix again?

Zalympix is a nod to the weed word “zaza” (slang for exotic), which is confused with Olympia. It’s an exotic weed championship competition in the raging arena of global cannabis culture – LA. Ordinary People chose the winner by purchasing a $600 box and receiving a code to choose the best flower in six categories, including best overall.

Winners from two previous Zalympix ended up in the championships, which is why the box was so difficult to judge. The boxes went out on May 16th and the awards ceremony will take place on June 11th. The judges received two tickets to the event and 2 grams each of flower from each competing brand, as well as some treats. The boxes were sold out.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Wisdome in LA, co-hosted by Secret Sesh, with dozens of top brands exhibiting and over 4,000 guests. Compound Genetics will be launching its Red Bullz Flower there tomorrow. The Zalympix is also coming to Michigan with partner Exotic Matter. The first boxes went on sale on Friday and were sold out.

We will update this post with winners and notes.
