Cannabis users say Massachusetts weed is ‘garbage’

Legal marijuana has resulted in many benefits. Aside from the fact that cannabis is more accepted and less taboo, there is a wide variety of products. Cannabis comes in all shapes and sizes and, if you know where to look, reliably solid quality. Except in Massachusetts, where consumers call their legal cannabis “garbage.”

The Boston Globe reports that dozens of marijuana connoisseurs have complained about the quality of their state’s weed. Most agree that while cannabis has improved with its legalization, the state produces mediocre weed and sells it at top prices.

“That is trash” said Warren Lynch. “The market here is dominated by nasty corporate gossip.”

“People from other states don’t want our weed when they visit us,” said Chandra Batra. “You think it’s a bad joke.” They share that those who know better prefer to buy cannabis illegally or go abroad for their medical marijuana.

Some of the issues consumers remember is buying pre-packaged flower from pharmacies preventing them from interacting with the product and noticing its qualities, one of the main ways cannabis connoisseurs can tell if they are getting a good batch handle weed or not. These problems were compounded by COVID-19, which prevented people from handling a variety of products or spending long periods of time in pharmacies.

While people’s cannabis tastes are subjective, qualities like sticky buds, bright colors, milky trichomes, and strong smells are all associated with a better experience. This is not a priority for the majority of cannabis users, but it is still an issue for long-term users.

Massachusetts cannabis growers and growers claim that many of their problems stem from a fledgling industry that is not uniquely limited to Massachusetts. “What you saw early on in Massachusetts was people sacrificing quality in order to pass testing through a quick-drying process,” said Brandon Pollock, CEO of cannabis company Theory Wellness.

Experts claim that good cannabis comes from carefully crafting batches, usually in smaller batches. Still, in most jurisdictions, the cannabis industry is busy establishing itself and producing enough products to meet people’s demand.
